Well guess I can’t put off making a plan for this season any longer, nothing set in stone but this is how I see this season shaping up and what I think I’m going to do. At this time looks like I’m going to be buying everything but man the market is tough and I will be very specific about what I’m buying.
I will buy all of the following on the carcass and on the carcass only, no finished or green skins at all. C**n, rats, mink, skunks that haven’t sprayed, possums, Fox, badgers, and very limited select western coyotes.
I will buy all the cars and beaver I can, carcass, skins or finished as these are the only real fur markets half way stable.
I am planning on running a few routes in Nebraska but still working out the details Nd hope to have them in about a week. Probably run the first one just after thanksgiving and then evaluate how successful that run is and how the markets are going then possibly run again in January and again in February.
I can not stress how important it will be to harvest fully prime animals this year, the one exception is beaver it doesn’t make any difference trap them early and all the way to the end. There is basically no market for anything but cats and beaver at this time and we are buying all other species with an idea to try and find new and specific markets for everything else. I’ve been saying for over a decade now it can’t get any worse but every year the market says hold my beer and finds a new low. It s going to take some time but I am hoping I can create some new markets in order to keep the doors open and the thing we love alive, but it’s getting damn hard evey year.
