Everyone seems so surprised when they see me bartending in the wild and I forever get asked “what DON’T you do?!”
Bartending is just one of my income streams. It isn’t my “fallback”.
I can (and DO!) enjoy bartending while I continue to build my businesses.
Bartending has paid off my college degree, bought my family a house and has been the main source of income since 2012.
It wasn’t until recently that I quit feeling shame for choosing this industry as my profession. If you’ve spent any time in this industry, you know all too well the assumptions people make about our work ethic, education level and socioeconomic status. A lot of times people treat us poorly while we are on the job because of those assumptions. Bartending is not a last resort. For some people it is a stepping stone, and for people like me - we figure out a way to make the industry work for us, our lifestyle and our goals.
I can love where I am AND use it to create a path for where I’m headed.
