The Heist
827 Main St. was built in approximately 1850 and was originally the Alex, Mitchell & Company bank. On October 30, 1866 the James Younger-Gang robbed the bank stealing $2,011.50. The gang fled towards Wellington on horseback being chased by Dave and John Pool as well as many others. Many shots were fired the robbers were able to escape uninjured.
Today 827 Main St. is owned by local owners and has been converted into an upscale bar. With the history of the building they had no choice but to name the bar The Heist. Pictures line the original brick walls that shows the building as well a many other fascinating sites of Lexington from itโs early years. The Heist is the only full nonsmoking bar in Lexington.
