🤝 Lend a Hand is a community-wide day of service designed to bring people together through collaboration and volunteerism across our beloved Town on October 3rd from 8am-12pm. The initiative unites individuals, families, and organizations around meaningful projects that make a lasting, positive impact in our community.

🫂 The event begins at 8 a.m. at Founders Park, located at 113 Town Hall Drive, where volunteers will check in, enjoy light refreshments, connect with fellow participants, and learn more about the organizations they’ll be supporting. At 9 a.m., volunteers will travel to their assigned locations and begin serving throughout the community.

🛌 Looking for a volunteering opportunity? Gather at Lowe’s in Wilmington TODAY, Saturday, Sept. 12, to build beds for local children in need as part of Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s annual Bunks Across America initiative.

The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lowe’s located at 5110 S. College Road.

Lowe’s and Sleep in Heavenly Peace are working with volunteers to build 125 beds for children in Wilmington and the surrounding area. The beds are intended to provide children with a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

The event is part of Bunks Across America, which organizers describe as the largest single bed-building event in the nation. This year, the national initiative aims to build 12,000 beds.

Volunteers can participate in the hands-on bed-building event, with organizers encouraging families and community members to take part.

People who want to support the effort without volunteering at the build can also participate in a bedding donation drive.

“No day shall erase you from the memory of time.”

Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 victims who died during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. We honor the courage of the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary selflessness that day and in the months that followed.

We also honor the more than 9,000 people who have fought and lost courageous battles with 9-11 illnesses, and the more than 145,000 who are still battling 9-11 illnesses today.

25 years later, the impact of 9-11 is still felt across our nation, in our communities and for many, like me, on a very personal level.
I saw the towers collapse from the top of the 59th Street bridge. It was a cloud of smoke like no other. The fear and the immediate sense of loss was like nothing I have ever felt. At that moment I realized how much we take for granted living in the USA. For many, survival that day was not just about walking away; it was about the heavy, quiet work of living with the memories ever since.

So today we reflect. We pray. We honor those lost.

🐍 Sips n Scales with Fresh Start Rescue Inc at BBX is always a great time - it’s a chance to get up close and personal with rescue reptiles for a good cause!!

🐢 Fresh Start is a non profit and relies 100% on donations. They’ve had a few event cancellations which is going to greatly impact their ability to operate. Consider reaching out to make a direct donation, or check their calendar of events to see where you will be able to find them around town. The cancellation of Riverfest is a major blow!

🫶 We look forward to hosting them again at BBX in the future once we reopen, so in the meantime let’s help keep these guys afloat!
