Your older Sram Guide d.o.t. fluid brakes will eventually seize-up and stop working. The lever pistons swell as a reaction to the d.o.t. brake fluid, especially if the bike sits for a lengthy period of time, and they eventually get stuck.
Sram stopped using d.o.t. brake fluid in favor of mineral oil with all their new hydraulic disc brakes in response to the issue.
But don't fret!
We have Version 2 Sram lever pistons and internal rebuild kits that eliminate the problem.
