Block 178

Block 178 Fine Wine & Craft Beer including the availability to enjoy both by the glass in the shop or in the garden. On your left is the original 120 year old stone wall.

Walking through the door you immediately notice this is not an everywhere USA wine and beer shop. Chocolate linen drapes frame the three arched windows looking out into the flower and rock garden of Honest Alley. On your right is a 27 foot custom wine display cabinet filled with hand selected, smaller production gems from the best wine regions in the world. As you scan the 180 square foot chalkboa

rd wall in the back of the room for today's wine and craft beer being offered by the glass, you are sure to notice the unmistakable sounds of old school vinyl coming from the vintage stereo in the corner. Spinning everything from Miles Davis and John Coltrane to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, its all vinyl all the time. The centerpiece of the room is a hand painted steel communal table from a French factory in the late 1800's inviting you to relax and share a glass or bottle with an old friend. Or the opportunity to try a new wine or craft beer and meet someone new. Choosing a bottle for here, home or both, you will quickly see that we are not your typical wine and beer shop and that's exactly what we intended. Come see us and experience a welcome difference.

Each week we are highlighting a wine that really represents what we do here at the BLOCK. This week we highlight a truly special Pinot Gris from Big Table Farm in Willamette Valley , Oregon. Really? A Pinot Gris? Absolutely! This is a single vineyard bottling from Wirtz Vineyard in Willamette. Only 162 cases were made and of that only two were available in the entire state of Georgia, and we have one!
This is a different style than most as it is fermented on the skins and stems. Doing this, along with the grapes reddish/gray color produces a gorgeous orange colored wine. It is immediately complex showing tertiary spice flavors over fruit. Cumin, fall leaves and spice. Apricot, dried strawberry and golden raisins add sweetness to the root spice flavors. The wine coats the palate with an oily and broad texture. A great balance of fruit and textural complexity! And there is one on the enomatic system! Cheers!

Here we go again! Why is Block 178 the place to come to for the wines you can't get anywhere else? Well here is another example, Sea Smoke Southing Pinot Noir 2103. This extremely limited and highly sought after gem found it's way to Lawrenceville! We work hard to procure gems like these for our customers as opposed to letting mass publications and wineries that are experts in marketing and not necessarily at what goes in the bottle be our selections on the wall.
Starting next week, we will highlight a wine each week that spends all it's resources on what goes in the bottle not on the glossy spreads in beautiful magazines. We will also have the highlighted wine available to try on the Enomatic machines so you can truly taste the difference. Cheers everybody!!

Just another example of what separates Block 178 from every other wine shop and wine bar. We just received one of the most sought after and hard to get wines on the planet. Shafer Hillside Select and Shafer Relentless. We are honored to be included in the tiny number of places that are awarded these incredible wines. So come by and see what else sets us apart from anybody else around! Cheers!
