Beso is moving. Our last service will be Saturday, October 25th.
We opened Beso in September 2021. Early in the spring, I had fallen in love with the space. I envisioned a wine bar, some retail, a few small plates, and warm summer evenings on the patio. It was all of that, but it grew into a restaurant more quickly than I expected and the learning curve for me was steep.
Beso is very much a family business. I couldn’t have worked through the numerous challlenges without my parents and my sister. Thank you. My uncle Fred built the trellis, my mom and I planted the vines. I felt that I had found a home for my creativity and a safe space to learn and grow. Boy. Did. I. Learn. I leaned heavily on the food and beverage experience of my family. If you ever enjoyed a dessert (that almond cake!) at Beso in the early years, it was my mom’s talent. She’s completely and utterly amazing in every way. Her support has been selfless and unconditional.
Beso really started to gel last summer, in 2024. We reached new milestones as we found our groove. While I am so deeply touched by every person with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working at Beso, there was a uniqueness to the energy that came from the team chemistry last year. You could feel the space buzzing from a mile away. I knew it was special at the time. I sat in the contentment often, appreciating the lively camaraderie after service. We had made this place work. I was incredulous. We encountered some existential challenges to our business late last year that dragged on for, let’s say, a long time. I began this year energized and excited, but ultimately, this will not be our forever home.
L.O. has been generous, patient, and gracious in their support of our project. (Shout out to the L.O.H.S. dishwashing crew - we love you all!). I can’t thank you enough. Continue to support local, and womxn-owned businesses where possible. Please, buy wine from independent retailers. Your purchase matters. We exhausted our options to move to a space in the L.O. area, so we are going to Portland, and hope to have the address publicized soon. Watch this space.
