Beso is moving. Our last service will be Saturday, October 25th.

We opened Beso in September 2021. Early in the spring, I had fallen in love with the space. I envisioned a wine bar, some retail, a few small plates, and warm summer evenings on the patio. It was all of that, but it grew into a restaurant more quickly than I expected and the learning curve for me was steep.

Beso is very much a family business. I couldn’t have worked through the numerous challlenges without my parents and my sister. Thank you. My uncle Fred built the trellis, my mom and I planted the vines. I felt that I had found a home for my creativity and a safe space to learn and grow. Boy. Did. I. Learn. I leaned heavily on the food and beverage experience of my family. If you ever enjoyed a dessert (that almond cake!) at Beso in the early years, it was my mom’s talent. She’s completely and utterly amazing in every way. Her support has been selfless and unconditional.

Beso really started to gel last summer, in 2024. We reached new milestones as we found our groove. While I am so deeply touched by every person with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working at Beso, there was a uniqueness to the energy that came from the team chemistry last year. You could feel the space buzzing from a mile away. I knew it was special at the time. I sat in the contentment often, appreciating the lively camaraderie after service. We had made this place work. I was incredulous. We encountered some existential challenges to our business late last year that dragged on for, let’s say, a long time. I began this year energized and excited, but ultimately, this will not be our forever home.

L.O. has been generous, patient, and gracious in their support of our project. (Shout out to the L.O.H.S. dishwashing crew - we love you all!). I can’t thank you enough. Continue to support local, and womxn-owned businesses where possible. Please, buy wine from independent retailers. Your purchase matters. We exhausted our options to move to a space in the L.O. area, so we are going to Portland, and hope to have the address publicized soon. Watch this space.

The orange & pink orbitals of tangy honeyed habanero & feta with pickled beet run circles around playfully dressed bitter greens and herbs. The real star comes encased in a glistening panko crust, fresh from a dip in a cauldron of rice bran oil. Our crab cakes are lumpy in all the right ways and go down easily thanks to several joyful expressions of citrus and spoonfuls of summer corn.

With ease the chin-chin of bright, cheery limón armarillo splashes sticky on excitable hands, animated by a long, warm night ahead. Lieu-dit dominance litters the shelves, first-rate producers ready, waiting patiently to go to a good home. The dog days are approaching, just not yet. Alas, this is not AI, our food is never frozen, and you can drink real wine here six days a week, IRL. See you soon. 📸

Join us for a tasting Thursday, July 24 from 5-7! We visited White Rose Estate back in January. We were gently reminded of the beauty of Oregon pinot and other varietals being grown here. These wines are stunning. Don’t miss this one.

Spring halibut is here. We do so much on two induction burners, two of us in the kitchen. We’ve been improving our fish but here little by little and are proud to offer fresh Alaskan halibut for as long as the bistro gods will allow. This set is with toasted farro, spring raab & corn, and our poblano-feta sauce. Bright & beautiful, just like you.

SPRING THINGS! Our main entrance for a literal glow up last weekend with the addition of a locally handmade neon sign. Safe to say that we are obsessed 🤩. Also received some hotly-anticipated Italian wines. If you know, you know, and if you don’t, come ask Vanessa! A weekly variation of fresh made tostadas have been flying out of the kitchen. Come see us :) .

GLASS POURWe’ve been living pouring Akiko Shiba’s wines these last couple of months. We finally got to visit their new digs earlier this year. They are located nearer the coast in the Van Duzer Corridor than Portland! These cooler sites bring a freshness to the wines. Her Willamette Blanc is still in glass pour for a bit longer..

While we are VERY excited about spring around the corner, it is still SOUP SEASON. A café is not complete without a scratch soup. This week we have an everything-but-the.. soup with chicken broth from our rich brown stock, plenty of veggies, local tofu, topped with a swirl of sauce vert, belper knolle hard grating , and toasty slabs of country loaf from . It took a village to make this soup. Call to pick-up or stop by and enjoy a glass of wine.

We’re back. It took us awhile, but we’re back doing what we love. Our building is old and charming and sometimes it’s got some surprises for its tenants. But we’ve reopened now after an extended holiday closure. We’ve been reopened but just quietly while we rebuild and rethink what works, and what hasn’t. You’ll see some new faces around the shop. Please come by and say. Our scratch soups, desserts and several walls of wine are waiting. 💕🙏
