Our Story

Nestled in the heart of Laguna Beach, Marine Room Tavern first opened its doors to the patrons of Ocean Ave. in 1934. Boasting the second-oldest liquor license in Orange County, and one of only four Class 48 (Alcohol Only) licenses in Laguna, the bar has since served as the local watering hole for 84 years strong.

In that time, the bar has been able to proudly sustain the core elements that have kept the business running, while preserving the heart and charm that make it a staple of the town.

Today, the bar continues to ebb and flow with the new tide of Laguna locals, serving just as much as a place to shoot pool and whiskey, as it does a place to shoot selfies and discover new music.

As it refines its style and grows through each chapter, one thing is certain: Marine Room’s doors will always remain open to the town, offering a place to gather, a place to call home—and most of all, a place to connect over a glass of whiskey.

Marine Room buzzes at night with the voices of Laguna. Passersby peek in its open windows, drawn in by the booming band, the racking of pool games, and the laughter as patrons stack Jenga pieces or scrawl in giant books in the cozy corners around the bar. The dance floor rocks while every stool gets grabbed up by the eager faces taking in the rows and rows of whiskey on the back bar.

Weekend nights pull crowds from all over Orange County and Los Angeles, while industry and whiskey specials make select weekdays the secret gems for locals, industry folk and those in the know.

In line with the city’s arts culture, Marine Room supports local artists by putting live music at the core of its brand. Combining the familiar and cherished with the new and exciting, the bar features a long roster of musicians, known and beloved in the local scene, while also regularly bringing in new artists from Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as touring bands from across the country, who seek out Marine Room as a destination stage. Every night offers a different sound, a different energy, and a different vibe to interject into the city’s nightlife.
