Happy International Pinotage Day!

The Pinotage grape, originating in South Africa, has become its homelands signature grape but only grows in about 50 acres (20 hectares) of U.S. vineyards.

W**e made from Pinotage grapes generally features notes of black cherry, blackberry, fig, mint, cocoa, coffee and game. Pinotage w**es tend to be fuller bodied, medium-high acidity and tannins, and higher ABV.

🎉Celebrate International Pinotage Day with W**e Thieves by trying the Barista Pinotage.

South African w**emaker Bertus Fourie earned the nickname ‘Starbucks’ for his unique approach to the nation’s signature grape. His vision was to create an accessible, modern Pinotage that deliberately emphasized rich coffee and chocolate notes.

The Pinotage Barista 2021 vintage we have is on the drier side with a balanced acidity and slightly tannic leaning, and is the perfect pairing for game, dark meat, strong sauce dishes, and heartier cuisines such as BBQ ribs, lamb, boar, or chili con carne.

How will you celebrate Orange W**e Day?

Orange w**e is white w**e made with extended contact of the juice and grape skins, and sometimes the seeds, during fermentation. The result can taste more like a light red than a typical white w**e, thanks to the tannin and texture extracted from the skins and seeds.

Orange w**e offers unique flavors and aromas. If often has fruit notes such as dried apricot, peach, and bruised apple, floral scents such as orange blossom and chamomile, and sometimes nutty qualities such as hazelnuts and almonds, bakery notes such a sourdough bread, or herbal elements such as green tea.

W**e Thieves has two orange w**es to help you celebrate Orange W**e Day!

Maturana W**es Naranjo
Made from 100% Torontel grapes native to Chile’s Maule Valley, Naranjo’s grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. They are left to ferment with native yeast and stay in contact with the skins for 8 months in stainless steel tank. It has a bright copper color with notes of orange skin, grapefruit, dried peaches, and apricots.

Orangotango from Giornata W**es
Made from white w**e grapes fermented on skins for 14-21 days, Orangotango’s aroma is fresh with citrus and stone fruit, while the palate is reminiscent of a summer creamsicle. The finish is nice, dry and lip-smacking, leaving the drinker with a desire for another sip.

What warm-climate grape is known for its ripe red berry fruit notes, high alcohol, and low tannins?

Grenache!

This sun and wind resilient, drought friendly grape is known as Grenache in France, Garnacha in Spain, Tinto Basto in parts of Portugal, and Cannonau in Sardinia, Italy.

Grenache is the 7th most planted grape in the world! It’s the backbone of GSM (G for Grenache, S for Syrah, and M for Mourvèdre), and the star of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Grenache’s flavor profile features bright fruits such as ripe strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, and stewed plum, and can have notes of spices and herbs such as white pepper, licorice, cinnamon, lavender or rosemary.

Celebrate International Grenache day with W**e Thieves by checking out:

*The Grenachista Rosé*
The Grenacharista Rosé is made from 100% Grenache and dazzles with aromatics of pink grapefruit, fresh strawberry, watermelon rind, rose petal, and candied orange peel.

*Château Redortier Gigondas*
With 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, this red w**e has rich and smooth tannins, with complex aromas of wild herbs, pepper, rasberry and cherries.

*Domaine du Pegau Cuvée Maclura Côtes du Rhône*
This deliciously fruity blend of spices and delicate tannins is made from 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Cinsault.

*Cochon Pape Rocks*
From Sonoma County, this red is 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre, and 3% Cinsault. With a brillant, deep ruby-purple color, the Cochon Pape Rocks features aromas of raspberries, ripe cherries, and pomegranate, with hints of herbs, white pepper and savory spices.

Saying goodbye to Meaghan is a little bittersweet. It’s hard to imagine the shop without her because she has become such a special part of W**e Thieves — and such a special part of our team.

Meaghan, you have truly been a light in this shop. You bring so much good energy wherever you go, and your goofiness, creativity, curiosity, and genuine love of w**e have made working alongside you so much fun. You have a way of making even the ordinary days feel a little more joyful.

We’re especially grateful for the way you’ve cared for our customers. You’ve made so many genuine connections and have always gone above and beyond to make people feel welcomed, heard, and taken care of. You’ve never lost sight of the fact that it’s about the people — listening to what they need, helping them find something they love, and making sure they leave feeling good. That means so much to us, and it’s something we’ll always appreciate about you.

Thank you, Meaghan, for everything you’ve brought to W**e Thieves — your heart, your humor, your creativity, your energy, and all the little moments that have made this place what it is. We are better for having had you here, and we’re so grateful that our paths crossed.

Now that Thirsty Thursdays and Saturday Patio Pours have come to an end for the 2026 season, we want to take a moment to recognize the woman who made these amazing events happen!

🍷 You may know Monica through her work behind the counter as a W**e Specialist, helping W**e Thieves shoppers pick the perfect bottles, and you’ve probably enjoyed her welcoming spirit, always inviting customers to relax, chat, and enjoy a glass, or two.

But Monica’s talents expand beyond her outstanding customer service skills!

🎨She is an incredibly talented artist! You know that beautiful sandwich board sign that always makes passersby smile? Yep! Monica is the artist behind the sign!

But this post, we want to focus on Monica’s extraordinary work in coordinating our Thirsty Thursdays and Saturday Patio Pours!
