Rory Snyder's Night Jazz Band

Rory Snyder's Night Jazz Band The Band is a 16 piece jazz band that plays professionally in the Bay Area. When Rory retired from DVC he kept the band going as Rory Snyder's Night Jazz Band.

The Night Jazz Band was founded in 1970 at Diablo Valley College, making it one of the longest running big bands in the west. The Night Band has recorded 3 CDs, the first featuring Phil Woods and the second featuring Toshiko Akiyoshi at DVC. The latest release is DVC Jazz Live at Yoshi’s w/ Bob Mintzer. The Night Band had a very successful tour of China and also taken jazz cruises and played at th

e CMEA State Conference

The band has presented many world renowned guest artists at DVC and Yoshi’s Jazz Club in Oakland. Phil Woods, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutchison, Clark Terry, Bruce Forman, Michael Wolff, Louie Bellson, Bill Watrous, Don Menza, Tom Politzer, Michael Davis, John Clayton, Ed Shaugnessy, Grant Geissman, Wayne Wallace, Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Bergeron, Jamie Davis, Clairdee, and more. Many clubs and schools have hosted the band for concerts over the the years. Armando’s Martinez, the Empress Theater, the Freight and Salvage, California Jazz Conservatory, San Jose State University. Chabot College, West Valley College, and many local schools.

Steve, I’m so glad to hear that Armando’s is back in action. Also glad to hear that they still have a Snyder coming to do gigs there so keep up the good work and let us know when the next gig isn’t try to make it.
