We’ve been watching the weather day after day, hoping Mother Nature would give us a break… but unfortunately, it’s looking like we’re in for a rainout. 🌧️

New Orleans made September 25 ‘Dolly Day,’ and they are giving her a parade.

Mayor Helena Moreno and the city council put it through. Her words were that New Orleans knows how to celebrate the people who bring joy to the world, and there were few who brought more of it than Dolly.

The Krewe of Dolly is running it. They started here in 2020 to raise money for children's literacy through her Imagination Library, and they are now about 700 strong. On the 25th, they plan to announce how much they have brought in. The goal is to reach six thousand kids in Orleans Parish.

She cut her first record in Louisiana. She was thirteen. "Puppy Love," at a studio in Lake Charles.

Patsy Cline was barely out of her teens when she married a contractor who wanted her to quit singing.

She was born Virginia Hensley in Wi******er, Virginia. Her daddy was a blacksmith who left, and she quit school at sixteen to wait tables and help her mama keep the family fed. She had been singing on the radio since she was fifteen.

Gerald Cline was seven years older, the son of a man with a construction company in Maryland. He spent money, and he drove a Buick, and for a girl in her position, he looked like a way out. A friend of hers said Patsy figured she could learn to love him.

He treated her fine. He just had no use for what she was after. One account of the marriage says he was jealous of her success and frustrated that she would not stay home the way a wife was supposed to.

She had already been hired by a bandleader who gave her the name Patsy. She was working the Maryland and Virginia circuit while she was married to him.

She left in 1957. Four years later, "I Fall to Pieces" went to number one, and she was still using his name.
