At Peace Tree Brewing Co., we offer a full line of craft beers and soda, including two prestigious, gold medal winning beers, Blonde Fatale and Get a Little Hazy. Here, we embrace the art and science of brewing and take pride in the fact we are one of Iowa’s first craft breweries and the first 100 percent woman-owned brewery in Iowa. It’s an intimate, family-friendly pub that’s known as a gatherin
g place for friends and family to enjoy Peace Tree’s fresh, local beer. We offer a variety of snacks, and you're welcome to order in from a local restaurant. We also have an outdoor beer garden and regularly host events, live music, and food carts. In 2017, we opened a second taproom in Des Moines’ East Village. It’s an industrial yet cozy space located in a renovated Quonset hut in the East Village in downtown Des Moines. The family-friendly space has a relaxed atmosphere and is a popular place to gather and host events with co-workers, friends, and family. It also has an outdoor patio and plenty of parking for bikes and vehicles. In 2023, we launched a retail popup in both taprooms, called Red Rock Nook. We carry a variety of hand-selected artisan items from a number of small businesses, including several in Iowa. You'll find decorative candles and pottery, Turkish towels, gourmet olives, stylish home accents and more. Whether you're looking for the perfect housewarming gift or want to pick up a few things for an impromptu get-together, you can always count on Peace Tree to elevate your experience. Our Red Rock Nook embodies the Peace Tree way of life. For those who can’t make it to our taprooms, our beers can be found at hundreds of stores, restaurants, and bars throughout Iowa and Nebraska. Our flagship beers include Red Rambler, Blonde Fatale, Get a Little Hazy and 99 Pils. We rotate unique brews in our Sour Wood Series and IPA Our Way Series, and we announce several limited releases each year. Over the years, brewing has remained our passion along with honoring where we’ve come from and where we’re going. Our name, Peace Tree Brewing Co, serves as a reminder of our past—where different cultures met to discuss, trade and come to agreements. The Peace Tree is a historic grand sycamore that was located near the town of Red Rock, under what is Lake Red Rock today. As the story goes, the old sycamore, which was estimated to be the second largest in North America, was a place where Native Americans met for generations, then became a meeting place for fur traders. Indian treaties were negotiated here and there is some speculation that it marks the Red Rock Line. When Red Rock Dam was built in the late 1960s to create a reservoir for the Des Moines River, the Peace Tree—as much as 500 years old by this time—was left standing and nobly rising out of the waters for years. Eventually the tree came loose in the water and was hauled to shore before it could drift away. Today, it still sits in the parking lot of the Lake Red Rock marina. Our hope is that the beer made under the Peace Tree label will be shared with friends and strangers alike and act as a catalyst for conversations, new friendships, and important agreements—in line with the lore of the Peace Tree of Red Rock.
