2025 "Fred Sacco Memorial Scholarship"
If you knew my dad, Fred, then you know there were 3 things he loved most, his beer distributor, his 2 grandsons, and football. He was so proud when Angelo and Ridley started playing football. He would get the biggest smile I've ever seen when they walked onto that field. He was always at their practices and games, watching with his binoculars from his Jeep, cheering them on, and talking to all of the people that were there.
When Daddy passed away in October of 2019, Alan and I wanted to do something to honor him, and to make sure that this community never forgot him. We came up with doing a scholarship in his name, which is funded solely by Alan and I.
This scholarship is awarded to one senior Armstrong River Hawks Football player. To earn this scholarship, they must have played football for 3 years in high school, including their senior year. They are asked to write a small paragraph on their educational and career goals, and what shaped those goals. My dad believed in hard work, and that nothing is free. He always said, you want something, you must work for it. The letters are then mailed to Mia Stivason-Airgood . Mia emails the letters to myself, my mom, and my dad's cousin, with no names attached, so we have no idea who they are. The 3 of us vote on which one we think is best, and then the winner is revealed to me.
The 2025 winner is, MAX ZABLOCKI. Congratulations, Max👏. A check for $1,000.00 will be mailed to the school of his choice.
