🚨 KANSAS CITY — WE NEED ANSWERS. WE NEED ACTION. 🚨
At this point, We should probably be talking about relaxing, enjoying our time and forgetting about work for a few hours.
But how can we relax when our businesses are struggling because of a parking situation that is directly affecting our customers, our employees, and the people who work every day to keep small businesses alive?
This is no longer just a parking issue. This is a small-business survival issue.
People are coming to support us, paying for parking, and still receiving tickets.
Our employees are struggling to find reasonable parking just to come to work.
Our customers are afraid to come downtown because they don’t know if they will return to their vehicle and find a ticket.
And now, we as business owners are experiencing it ourselves.
My husband and I have both had Barnacles placed on our vehicles. These barnacles apply 1000lbs of pressure to your windshield and it has cracked every windshield that this barnacle has been applied to.
I personally paid approximately $600 to have a Barnacle removed from my vehicle just four months ago.
And now I am facing another citation because the Barnacle was in my possession $320… seriously, And most recently, I was ticketed while actively unloading my truck for my business.
My husband came out to exchange few words with the “parking uncontrollable Guy”1
I had my handicap placard properly displayed, my emergency flashers on, and I was actively unloading groceries and supplies.
I wasn’t shopping.I wasn’t walking away from my vehicle.
I WAS WORKING.I was doing what small-business owners do every single day—getting the supplies needed to open our doors and serve our customers. And I STILL received tickets.
THIS IS NOT OKAY.
Because while this is happening, our businesses are losing customers.
Especially in the mornings.
And when customers don’t come through the door, we still have payroll to meet.
We still have employees who depend on their hours. We still have rent, utilities, insurance, food, supplies, taxes and countless other expenses.
The bills don’t stop simply because customers are afraid to park
❤️💙 WE ALSO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.
We want to sincerely thank Kirsten, the FOX 4 reporter who took the time to listen to us and cover this issue. Thank you for hearing our concerns.
Thank you for giving small businesses a voice.Thank you for understanding that this isn’t simply about someone complaining about getting a ticket. You listened to our needs when we felt like nobody else was listening.
And to the people in charge of our city—the Mayor’s office, city leadership, and everyone responsible for addressing this situation:
WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN ANSWER.We have raised our concerns. We have explained what is happening. We have asked for help. And so far, we have received no meaningful response.
We don’t want a fight. We don’t want special treatment. We don’t want to be above the rules. WE WANT A FAIR SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS SMALL BUSINESSES TO SURVIVE.
We want communication. We want accountability. We want reasonable solutions.
And most importantly, we want someone to sit down with us and listen.
🚨 KANSAS CITY, NOW WE NEED YOU. 🚨
If you are a customer who has received a ticket while supporting a local business…
If you are an employee struggling to park while coming to work…
If you are a business owner experiencing the same problems…If you have paid for parking and still received a citation…
