It’s been a while since I wrote you a little something so let’s see what I’ve got for you.
Somehow, I am last to bed and first up around here, it’s nice to only have the voice in my head for a bit before the chaos starts. This morning I crept outside (quietly) with my laptop, to do the food orders and talk to you. In the summer I use the table by the shed as an outdoor office as often as I can.
The view has changed a little since last year as we lost a tree and gained some junk. The tree was lost to the storm the other day (those little nippers I got for my birthday sure came in handy). The junk? Well…
Money was a bit tight this spring and Mary and I had several talks about how our summer would shape up. We decided we would stay home instead of going somewhere for vacation this year and summer camps, well we could send the boys but what if instead we bought little Kayaks for the creek…and we got fishing licenses for the first time in years.
You see where this is heading, money spent on smaller things in ways that enrich our lives all the time.
Then Smalls asked for a workshop for his birthday and that got us thinking. There is no way we will buy another shed but the house is small and the thought of another place for the kids to hang has its own appeal.
One day as we were discussing this, we happened to be driving by Hemminger’s Junk yard, “Look they have one of those little boxes for on back of a truck”, so we stopped and asked. They said the one we saw wouldn’t work and then led us over to a broke down old truck and said what about this? We take a look; it’s an old Spory’s lock smith truck with an aluminum and fiberglass box on it…it’s dry and 8x10…with a lot of imagination it might work and is affordable.
So that’s how I ended up with Junk for my kids. A little paint and some dog fence windows and it’s shaping up nicely. Mary is going to add a little porch and benches inside to camp out on. I think I will hook up the zip line so they can cross the crick from the back. The blonde sister offered some outdoor carpet. I will be on the lookout for some outdoor cushions ( and am accepting donations) …So now I am kinda jealous of my kids…
In other news after 6 months of teaching himself piano Talls is asking for a 88 key keyboards with pedals…this never seems to end but since I am typing this while clarinet note drift across the lawn I must admit music seems to be his thing and will have to see what can be done there.
Lastly smalls just came to me and said, “Mom I think I have poison ivy”, he showed me the spot and I sent him to Grandma Mare. He came back and said “Grandmare put Ivy dry on it but it’s still there, see?” showing me his little hand. I explained that’s not how that works and it will probably take at least two days for it to go away, to which he replied “oh so I should have put it on two days ago.” …Kid logic
Don’t know why any of this would make you come to dinner but because you do sometimes I get to buy my kids cool junk so Thank you for continuing to choose us I really appreciate where that has got me in life so far as I sit listening to the birds and the clarinet version of Up On The House Top ( in June)
