Members,

After a couple days of rest, relaxation and mental health let’s talk Eagle Fest.

First and foremost, I want to thank each and every volunteer who contributed throughout the planning of Eagle Fest! Thank you for sharing the load! Thank you for sharing your ideas and thank you for following through and making sure every detail was covered. Without you this wouldn’t have happened and it certainly wouldn’t have been the success that it is.

For all near 90 of you that volunteered on that day. Thank you also from the bottom of my heart for working so hard to make this a success. We set up in the rain, but never lost faith. Many of you worked much longer than you had signed up for, many of you took charge and made sure things were set up in a logical and successful way. It was amazing to look around at the sea of lime green volunteer T-shirts. I hope in the coming days to be able to thank each of you individually for your contributions.

After all cost and income have been counted we made just over $5000 towards repairing the parking lot. This is truly amazing, considering the rain predictions of 90% throughout the day. God saw fit to answer our prayers that day. Thank you Jesus for answered prayers!! Also realize that we have proven we can be successful at this without any outside sponsorship or donations. Imagine what we will do next year when we actively begin gathering sponsorship from local businesses! After the word gets out from our attendees about the great music and location, this will grow every year.

The plans are to host Eagle Fest every year on the second Saturday of June. I have already begun locking down a headliner.

As most of you know, by now, this was my baby, my labor of love and a dream come true. I am truly blessed to be a part of this great bunch of fun, loving people. You guys never cease to amaze me. Thanks for having my back, but most importantly, thank you for your friendship, your trust and your support. We have proven once and for all…

This years joint President’s charity is Halo, a local organization that houses young women and their children, and has programs for teenagers and young people (male and female) that teaches job skills, ensures school or work attendance, and teaches life skills. You can find more information about their programs at https://halo-worldwide.org/jeff-city/. We are gathering summer supplies for them. Next time you are out shopping grab something to donate. There is a box in the Social Room.

On the Hot Seat - Sarah Schappe

Sarah, tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and what landed you in Jefferson City?

I was born in Kansas City. We moved to a farm in Linn County, Missouri when I was 4 and moved back to Raytown when I was in 5th grade. I moved to Columbia to go to college, graduated undergrad and started law school.

I met my husband, Chris, when I was in undergrad and we stayed in Columbia until 2014 when we moved to Jefferson City. We were both working here and it didn’t make sense to keep
commuting.

How long have you been an Eagle and what positions have you held if any and have you done any volunteer work at the club?

I have been a member for about 8 years. I’ve been conductor and vice-president of the Auxiliary and just started my term as President. I have helped with various fundraisers and chaired a dance and silent auction last year that benefited Red Slipper Warrior Project.

How has your career work helped you in serving as an Eagle?

I think the organizational skills and public speaking I’ve learned being a lawyer have contributed to my work as an Eagle member.

Tell us about your family status. and do you have children?

I am married to Chris Schappe, the men’s Secretary, We have a daughter, Madeline, who lives in Peoria with her husband and one-year old. Our son Thomas is still at home with us. He is also an Eagle’s member. We have two dogs as well.

What do you most enjoy about being an Eagle?

How people from so many different backgrounds work together to help others and eachother.

What are things you hope to see happen at the Eagles?

I would like to get more people to attend meetings. I also want to continuing building on our successful fundraising of the past. My charity this year is Halo. They have housing for young women
between 16 and 21 who are homeless. They also have an program from 3-9pm for young men who are homeless or at risk. I am planning several fun things to raise money for them specifically.

Do you cry when you see the A.S.P.C.A. commercials with Sarah McLachlan singing "In the arms of an angel"?

A lot of things make me cry, but not that.

When not working on your career or Eagle/Auxiliary events what do you do in your free time?

I have a large garden that is mostly native plants. I really enjoy learning about them and watching the wildlife and bugs they attract. I have a small vegetable garden as well. I also enjoy reading and crafts, particularly cross-stitch and crochet.

What is one thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

I am terrified of heights.

When you were a young girl, what did you always dream about doing as an adult?

Scuba diving. I haven’t done that yet, but I did get to go snorkeling in Mexico.

Who is your favorite musician, or band?

My nephew, George Arbuckle. He played at the dance I organized for the Red Slipper Warrior Project last year. He moved to Nashville in October and has been pursuing music full time. Check him out on Spotify!
