Grab a seat at our tasting bar to enjoy a flight or full pour from one of our six constantly rotating taps. Or select a bottle from our fridge and we’ll open it for you to enjoy as you browse the shelves. If you don’t have time to kick back and enjoy a beer on-site, no wor

ries. We have six-packs, four-packs, bottles and cans waiting for you to take home. We also encourage you to spend time building your own six pack by combining a few old favorites with some new exciting finds. So, Alewife isn’t just a store. It isn’t just a bar. It’s a celebration of beer, the craftsmen (and women) who brew it, and the drinkers who respect it.

While life has moved on, there are certain moments where the absence of Alewife hits us. And River City Pride weekend is most definitely one of them. This will be the first time in 10 years we haven’t been getting ready to share our space with our community coming together to celebrate the Pride Parade.

It was always one of our favorite days. We loved seeing our space packed with families, friends, and just the general joy of people finding their community. Feeling loved. Feeling safe. Feeling supported. Feeling connected. Feeling seen. We genuinely, from the bottom of our hearts, miss sharing that with you. Have so much fun out there today, friends.

Continue to be loud when they try to silence you. Continue to be visible when they try to erase you. Continue to find joy when they try to shame you. Keep the people that stand up for you close. Always be proud. 🫶🏼

Hey friends. Popping back in because we realized yesterday that we opened Alewife 10 years ago this week. ⁣
⁣
Since closing, Jamie and I have had a lot of time to reflect on the journey. What aspects meant the most to us? What do we miss most? What made us the most proud? The short answer to those reflections: what we miss most is you. And we are most proud of the space we created that allowed us the opportunity to meet and know you. ⁣
⁣
Yes, we set out to open a craft beer bar. The best craft beer bar even. And for us, the best meant a place where people like us would feel welcome. The drive behind Alewife started as passion to create space for us in an industry where we didn’t always feel welcome. In turn, that approach made us create spaces for more people beyond craft beer enthusiasts. ⁣

And I think in the end, that is what we are most proud of when we look back on Alewife. It wasn’t so much *what* we were doing (craft beer), but *why* we were doing it. And the why was to make craft beer available, approachable, and welcoming to all. And eventually, it went beyond craft beer…it was about making a space for all. Particularly for those that rarely feel safe in a typical bar space. It was about creating a space that felt approachable and welcoming to everyone - regardless of what was being served. Creating a space where people felt a sense of belonging was our greatest accomplishment. ⁣

So all that to say…keep creating spaces, friends. They’re important. Whether it’s a business. Your living room. A backyard. The world needs those spaces now more than ever. We miss you and ate forever grateful for you. 🫶🏼

What an absolutely epic night last Thursday was. Thank you to everyone - and I think it was literally everyone - who came out to send us out in style. Our bar crew absolutely crushed it all night. Thank you for the posts, the cards, the kind words…it will certainly sustain us as we keep on with the difficult work of wrapping things up the next couple weeks. ⁣

We will be open Tuesday through Friday from 4pm - 8pm to work through the remaining inventory. ⁣

Looks like Jax was yet again on the fortunate side of a devastating storm. We see the sun peaking out, but with the saturated grounds and gusty winds, we are going to go ahead and keep our plan to close today. The city of Jax is encouraging people to not be out and about if they don’t need to be. ⁣

We’ll take the day to rest and get ready for our final week. Our thoughts are with all our friends who didn’t come out of Milton as lucky as we did. Sending you all big love.

Hey friends! Hope everyone feels prepared for whatever Milton brings us. Our plan is to be open tomorrow regular hours with the potential for an earlier closing if the weather deteriorates. We will play Thursday and Friday by ear. As long as it is safe to be open, safe to travel to the bar, and we have power…we plan to be open. We’ll post updates here! Stay safe, Jax.
