Wastepro Wants You To Know

Do you like surprises? Most business owners we know don't.

We are in hurricane season. Here are some tips for you to think about as you prepare:

1. Find out what types of wind and water hazards could happen at your business

2. Start a preparedness plan and discuss with your employees how to handle them

3. Know your flood zone

4. Review your insurance coverages and adjust accordingly

5. Develop a communication plan with the list of vendors you may need in an emergency like Wastepro

Remember:
Hurricanes are not just a coastal problem. Their impacts can be felt hundreds of miles inland, and significant impacts can occur without it being a major hurricane.

Waste Pro Associates Making a Distinguishable Difference!

How? Being attentive to their surroundings and responding to the needs of others.

A customer resently recognized two of our associates in a letter sent to Waste Pro, Crendy Hurst and Travis Smith for assisting a customer who recently had back surgery. After noticing he was having trouble moving his refuse, they jumped in to help and was thoughtful enough to replace the bin so there would be minimal physical exertion for our customer.

Today we celebrate you as Waste Pro of Jacksonville Heroes.

Did you know that Waste Pro has a museum?

We have a new addition to our Garbage Truck Museum in Sanford, FL.

This 1930s (exact year unknown) DeMartini was originally built in San Francisco, CA. At the time, a group of Italian immigrants who called themselves “scavengers” because they had to scavenge to survive created a company (now called Recology) that by law was the only company in the city of San Francisco allowed in the waste collection industry. They formed an association of 100 operations, some even using horse-drawn carts to collect waste. After taking it upon themselves to make their own trucks in 1918, the DeMartini exploded in popularity – it was seen on every street in San Francisco by the mid-1920s.

Scott Collier, Waste Pro’s Corporate Fleet Maintenance Manager and Museum Curator, led the company’s restoration crew to design and build the body of this truck with the exact proportions of the original and honoring the time period in which it was created.

The Waste Pro Garbage Truck Museum is the only one of its kind in the world. It is located at Waste Pro’s Central Florida Regional Operations Headquarters in Sanford, FL. Walk-ins are welcome, but it is recommended to call ahead and schedule a visit.

Waste Pro of Jacksonville could not be more proud of our teammates in Daytona, FL.

On March 24th, Raymond Pawlak, a 25-year resident of DeBary, FL is crediting two Waste Pro crew members with saving his life.

According to a letter sent by Pawlak to Waste Pro’s Daytona Beach, FL Division, he was lying in his driveway when Haley Burdett and James Gorman pulled up in a recycling truck to collect his items on February 28th. Pawlak said Burdett alerted his wife while Gorman called 911 and remained on the line with dispatchers to answer questions while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Pawlak revealed that when he got to the hospital, his pulse had dropped dramatically and was no longer sending blood to his organs, including his brain.

“Undoubtedly, Haley and James saved my life and I am eternally grateful,” he wrote in the letter.

As a reward for the Waste Pro duo, Daytona Division Manager Ken DeForest gave them each a Franklin Award ($100). It is situations like this, he said, that have earned Waste Pro the reputation as the “distinguishable difference” in the industry.
“They never said anything about the incident until this letter came to us. When I asked why, they told me ‘it didn’t slow us down, so we didn’t say anything,’” DeForest said. “Real heroes seem to always be humble about what they have done.”
