When this client arrived at our shelter at 68 years old, he was facing significant challenges, including health concerns and the uncertainty of rebuilding his life. While he was receiving Social Security benefits, he was determined not to let age or circumstances define his future.
That determination paid off.
During his stay, he secured employment at Jackson Rancheria, proving that motivation, hard work, and a positive attitude can open doors at any age. We're proud to share that he's thriving in his role.
In just four to five months, he achieved something remarkable. By combining his Social Security income with his new employment, he was able to secure permanent housing. What began with relying on public transportation and rides from others has grown into even greater independence. Most recently, he was able to purchase a vehicle of his own.
His story is a powerful reminder that your age does not determine your potential. With determination, perseverance, and the right support system, meaningful goals can become reality.
