Iโve had so many people asking what happened at the working board meeting last night, so here it is โ the truth, the frustration, and the reality of what weโre fighting for. They went into closed sessionโฆ and honestly, I still donโt know why, because we could hear half of what they were saying anyway. From what we did hear, it felt like they were digging for any reason they could find to deny me โ and The Thirsty Perch.
Let me be clear
The village clerk sad it hasn't been a year yet. It will be middle the of Jume. They forced me to apply as a โnew business,โ even though The Perch has been here for years and the lawsuit is not settled. The Village clerk stated I checked the records and can't see where you were issued a license last year,
A church that moved in after this building had already been a bar for over 50 years.
A church that already received an exemption last year
One was pled down with the Village attorney โ I paid the fine, and he told me it would NOT count against our liquor license.
So that leaves one:
A bartender left a gate open on a Sunday.A gate that doesnโt keep minors out.
A gate that doesnโt โprotectโ anything.
A gate that is basically symbolic โ yet somehow theyโre treating it like a like a felony.
Because I didnโt know whether to mark โnewโ or โreapplying,โ and nobody would help.
Because they donโt give you last yearโs paperwork anymore like previous clerks did.
Because Iโm human, and Iโm doing this alone.Mistakes on a form do NOT make me unfit to run a business.
Other businesses in town got letters and emails telling them to reapply.
Mark Mc Coy and I got NOTHING.
We only found out because another bar owner showed us their letter.Thatโs not fairness.
Thatโs not transparency.
Thatโs not how a village government should treat its people.
Good.
Because legally, Iโve done nothing wrong.
There is no ordinance preventing me from applying.
There is no violation that disqualifies me.
There is no reason โ other than personal feelings โ to deny us.
But hereโs what I do know:
This is about our livelihood.
Our employeesโ livelihood.
Our community.
Our music.
Our gathering place.
Our history.
Our future.Even our Village President said, โLetโs hit the reset button.โ
Well โ this is the moment to actually do that.If we want to heal this village, if we want to stop the division, if we want to move forward together, then we need to start by supporting the places that bring us together. And like it or not, The Thirsty Perch is one of those places

Call your trustees.
Email them.
Talk to them.
Tell them what YOU want for your village. They are elected to represent you, not personal grudges, not selective enforcement, not behind closed doors opinions.Weโre not asking for special treatment.
Weโre asking for fairness.
Weโre asking for consistency.
Weโre asking for the chance to work, to serve, to rebuild, and to be part of this community again

Letโs stop the double standards.
Letโs stop the silence.
Letโs bring back the music, the laughter, the community, and the heart of this village. The majority of Iola wants The Thirsty Perch open.
The majority wants the music back.
The majority wants healing โ not more division.Itโs time to speak up.
Itโs time to stand together.
Itโs time to bring The Perch home
