EtE Planning Tip: You know you have done crossed T and dotted every I when the first day of your event you have nothing to do but wait for the guest to arrive. It is all in the details. Even when you are staying up till your eyes feel like they have weights on them, those details are what make and break an event. Just remember in the end its all worth it.

EtE Planning Tip: Your event is in two weeks and you only just started planning. Hey it happens. You either were brought in at the last minute or there were delays that would not allow you to start work on the project until now. Well, don't panic. All you need to do is make the list of all of the vendors you need to call and the items that you need to get for the event. Then just start calling. If you are looking for the best price, don't try and get quotes from everyone, narrow it down to only two vendors that you reach out to. If they know you have a short turn-around window, they will get back to you because they want your business. Most importantly don't panic. Yes it will stress your limits, however if you take a step back, talk to someone impartial, or just get organized on paper it will all help you keep on track to making that last minute event just as great as an event you took two months to plan.

EtE Planning Tip: Building strong professional relationship with vendors is vital to a success event. When you begin working with a vendor find out how they like to communicate, when is the best time to reach them, what other vendors they recommend and who would recommend them. By getting to know your vendor and build a strong working relationship will help you and the vendor accomplish your tasks and make both you and the vendor operate on a high level of quality.

EtE Planning Tip: Not all events that you plan are going to be fun. Sometimes you are asked to plan the homecoming, "passing", of a loved one. During these times the most important aspect of planning is to remember the sensitivity of the moment. There are so many emotions that are released during this time that your client may not be able to express all of their true needs and wants. The best you can do for them is be respectful, be caring, be patient and be humble. You are there to add peace of mind. Take care of them as you would want your family to be taken care of.

ETE Planning Tip: When planning an event there will inevitably be changes that must be made during the planning process. Whether its the location that you originally wanted or the menu that you really wanted was not available. Try to develop a Plan A, Plan B and a Plan C at the very beginning of your process, By having alternative options before you start planning, you will not be as frustrated if/when changes need to be made to your event. This will allow you to continue planning without missing a step.

ETE Planning Tip: Finding a venue for your event can the be hardest part of planning any event. Without the venue you don't have a date, you can't send invitations, you basically are stuck. So start by figuring out what type of atmosphere you want. A ballroom, a restaurant, or a bar. Figure out whether you plan to stay at the venue the entire time or if you are going to split the time between one or more venues. Then determine does the venue have all that you need, do they serve food or must you bring in a caterer? Do they have the ability to have a cash bar? How many people can your venue hold? And does the venue fit in your scheduled agenda times. When you figure out your venue then the rest is easy. Just start calling with a date in mind and then go from there. Ultimately you will find the venue that will be perfect for your event.

EtE Planning Tip: When ordering food for your event there are a few things to remember. One you should plan for an expectation of about 5% no shows. Even when you have say 200 people that sent in an RSVP, you can always expect that there will be a few people that will no show for some reason. Two you and your caterer should meet to discuss the what is your guarantee number of meals to be served and what is the contingency plan for any special meal requests, extra guests, and the menu. Three make sure that you select a menu that offers something that everyone can eat. Remember that not everyone eats fish or pork. Just make sure your meal is appropriate for your guests.

EtE Planning Tip: you have to set the mood for your events. The best way to do that is with music. Always have music playing as people enter your events. Whether it's a training; a birthday party; a fundraiser; or a keynote presentation, create a playlist of music that will immediately connect you to your guests. It will set the mood and engage everyone.

EtE Planning Tip: Are you in search for a venue to host your event? If so, if the venue doesn't call you back within 24 hours of your initial call then be very cautious. Their response time is an indicator of how they will treat you as a customer. It shows that they lack the ability to communicate in a timely manner, which could cause you issues during your planning process. Whether it's a venue or a vendor good communication between everyone involved is the key to a successful event.

EtE Planning Tip: When negotiating with vendors it is important to remember that the goal is to try to "get to a yes". So before negotiations begin make a list of what you are willing to do without. That way when you go into negotiations you already know what it will take to still make your project a success even if you are not able to obtain everything that you wanted. This will help your negotiations go faster and the process go smoother.

EtE Planning Tip: When having a house party make sure that you set food out in several different areas of your house. It pushes your guests to roam and mingle throughout the house rather than just hang in one location... By the food table.

EtE Planning Tip: Make your Super Bowl party a little more interesting by creating an old fashion betting grid using flip chart paper. Hang the grid somewhere everyone will see. Have each person place their bet for a dollar. It will be fun, engage everyone at party and make watching the game that more exciting.
