Happy International Infection Prevention Week to the infection preventionists who keep healthcare safe.

Every infection that never happens, every outbreak caught early and every patient who goes home without complications reflects the standards you hold.

You’re the ones who ask the hard questions, train new staff, push for better processes and keep checking the details everyone else misses. Infection preventionists have been doing that for generations, and patients are safer because of it.

We see the impact of your work every day in the departments we serve. We’re grateful to work alongside teams who take patient safety this seriously.

Thank you for all you do.

Lead aprons are there to protect you. Most departments assume that’s the end of the story.

For RCS co-founder Justin McKay, a shared garment led to a ringworm diagnosis, a week of heavy prescriptions, and a lot of questions nobody wanted to answer.

So he started working the problem from a garage. Power washers. Wipes. Trial and error. Then they visited the manufacturers.

One engineer warned them never to use alcohol, and an hour later the same company’s director handed them alcohol-based wipes.

That’s how RadCare Services got its start.

Chapter one of Justin’s story is live. 👇

There’s no regulatory requirement to X-ray inspect lead aprons. Most facilities do a hand check: put on gloves and feel for cracks. You won’t find anything that way.

This is the part that keeps me up at night.

When a thousand garments come through for their first service, 12-13% have holes, cracks, or tears. People are assuming their PPE protects them, and it doesn’t...

We've heard it all: people who wore damaged lead for four years without knowing.
A pregnant tech asking us to check hers “just to make sure.”

These are our teammates. We should be taking care of each other.

We had so much fun working with Paige on her very own custom-fitted lead! Our team went onsite to measure her, she designed every detail herself.

✔️ A vest-and-skirt style she picked so her back doesn’t hurt at the end of a long shift
✔️ Lumbar support on the skirt (and pockets!)
✔️ Magnet closures, so no more Velcro pulling her hair

Thank you, Paige, for trusting us, and thank you to Techno-Aide for bringing it to life!

SSIs and HAIs are some of the most preventable harms in healthcare, and some of the most overlooked sources are things we wear.

After hearing Bill’s MRSA story, Elle broke down why lead aprons belong in the infection prevention conversation. They’re worn across multiple cases and patients, they’re stored in shared spaces, and they’re often left out of routine cleaning protocols.

Wearing clean lead is about more than comfort or routine, it is about safety at every level.

Lead garments can harbor bacteria and contaminants that may be transferred to patients or patient objects, increasing the risk of SSI’s.

By ensuring your lead is properly cleaned, you are taking an active step in protecting yourself, reducing contamination risks, and safeguarding your patients.

When was the last time your team’s lead was cleaned?

Ringworm in the OR?!

On the latest episode of Culture Positive, RCS Co-Founder Justin McKay tells how wearing a hospital-owned lead apron in the OR gave him...ringworm?!

What started as one rash turned out to be a gap in how hospitals protect their staff and patients. Closing that gap is why RadCare Services exists.

What are biofilms?
Biofilms are a colony of bacteria that sticks to a surface and builds a protective layer around itself. Once they form, a quick wipe with a short contact time mostly slides across the top. The bacteria underneath survive and come back.

That's why our process has two steps. Clean first to physically break up the biofilm, then disinfect kills what's left.

Wipes have a place. They just can't do this job by themselves.

508 garments. 111 tech hours. One exam room offline for 14 business days.

For one Midwest teaching hospital, in-house lead inspection added up to $171,537, or about $338 per garment.

None of it shows up as "lead management." It hides in downtime, in overtime, and in "we'll get to it next quarter."

RCS handles scanning, documentation and audit-ready records, and loaner garments keep your rooms open while we work.

See what your inspection is costing you. Book a scan day.

Patient safety in the OR doesn't happen by accident. It happens because surgical technologists make it happen, every shift, every case, every count.

They're in the room before anyone else arrives. They set the sterile field, prepare the instruments, and build the foundation that every case runs on.

Most people outside the OR don't fully grasp what that job demands. The focus required over a full shift. The weight of knowing that the details you manage directly affect whether a patient goes home healthy.

This week is National Surgical Technologist Week, an annual reminder to say out loud what should be said more often: surgical techs are essential.

To every ST out there: the standard you hold in that room matters. The work you do matters. You're seen this week, and you should be seen every week.
