Happy Birthday, Mickey Mantle!

⚾ Happy 95th Birthday to Baseball Legend Mickey Mantle! ⚾

Did you know that one of baseball’s greatest legends got his start right here in Independence, Kansas?

Before becoming a New York Yankees superstar, Mickey Mantle played for the Independence Yankees in 1949, where he hit his first professional career home run at our very own historic Shulthis Stadium!

From the ballfield in Independence to the bright lights of Yankee Stadium, Mantle went on to become a Baseball Hall of Famer, seven-time World Series champion, and one of the most celebrated players in baseball history!

Today, October 20th, we celebrate what would have been his 95th birthday and the special place Independence holds in his legendary baseball story.
