No, we are not reopening Penny Quarter. Sad, we know. BUT, we are selling some of our furniture, equipment, and decor (small and large) as part of the yard sale happened this weekend - Saturday and Sunday 11am-3pm, in the Anvil parking lot.

Between , we have so much stuff collected over the years. Anvil and BLT just need to make room for future operations, but old PQ and PW stuff needs to go after the closures. There’s glassware, furniture for your home or office, restaurant equipment small and large, art - literally everything and LOTS of it.

All will be sold first-come, first-serve at the sale (sorry no advanced sales or previews). It’s is all priced to move, so make sure to swing through!

P.S. miss y’all here .

SOLD-OUT. We are shocked; tomorrow canceled too. Thanks for the support Houston. WINE LIQUIDATION!!! *BREAK-EVEN EVERYTHING* (Meaning at Our Cost, aka NO Mark-Up) Wine will be sold first-come, first-serve Thursday and Friday, 4:00-8:00 on Penny Quarter’s second floor RETAIL TO-GO ONLY. Tongue-Cut Sparrow is now occupying the first floor, but OUR ENTIRE SECOND FLOOR is full of wine that must go (said in a very loud end of year car dealer liquidation commercials voice). So please come on by; we miss and would love to see y’all. But since we can’t as we intended previously, please accept our apologies in the form of extremely cheap, delicious wine. Masks and COVID common sense are absolutely required.

Thanks for your support Houston!

We have made the very difficult decision to indefinitely close Penny Quarter. We would like to sincerely thank you for all of your support - especially over the past couple of months. We are unsure if we will ever reopen, but we are very proud of what our team accomplished at Penny Quarter over the last year.

Why close? Because a new business with lower prices and a casual cafe setting can’t survive COVID-19. We pay our staff higher wages for our industry in addition to providing health benefits for all employees, and we refuse to do any less. To achieve this, however, we need lots of people in our space throughout the day to afford to do so. This simply isn’t possible today and rebuilding Penny Quarter to that point over the summer would require significant debt in addition to the opening debt we are currently burdened by as a new business.

Rather than letting the inevitable slowly play out, we feel we are better able to care for our staff by making this choice now, rather than later. Again, thank you Houston for your support; we love serving you.

We are gently and cautiously starting the process of reopening Penny Quarter today in addition to continuing to-go service. Our adjusted hours are currently 9am-9pm daily. We are so excited to get back to serving you, but we also feel compelled to take this slowly for our staff and your safety.

Please note that 100% of proceeds during the foreseeable future will go towards staff wages and health benefits. We own 100% of PQ, and that means we can prioritize our staff fully above all else. We also provide health benefits for all full-time staff, and we have maintained those benefits throughout this health crisis. Additionally, we are taking the following steps to promote a healthy restaurant culture is at the forefront of our minds at all times: -Our staff is expected to follow guidelines regarding social distancing.
-All employees will have their temperatures checked and logged daily before entering the building.
-Staff are required to stay at home if sick and will be required to follow strict protocol before returning to work.
-Handwashing is required every 15 minutes. -Single-use gloves are used between handwashing and replaced when in contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.
-Hand sanitizer is available throughout the restaurant.
-All surfaces, doorknobs, and other public surfaces are sanitized every 15 minutes.
-Tables are set a minimum of 6 feet apart.
-Restroom attendants will restrict restroom access and sanitize these areas after each use. 📸: (And an old photo at that...seating is definitely more spaced out currently to maintain physical distancing)

Come show our amazing staff some love! Let’s be honest, we’re only charging the 26¢, so we can run your credit card and give you an opportunity to tip these incredible folks. Here’s how this works:

1. Tomorrow, April 26¢, 9am-2pm.
2. Park in our lot @ Windsor & Westheimer (the Dirt Lot).
3. STAY IN YOUR CAR.
4. Wait for a masked member of our staff to take your order.
5. Order coffee. Maybe buy some wine too?
6. Listen to some tunes while you wait.
7. Get your coffee and pay 26¢ for each drink.
8. Tip well!

It’s going to be great to get the team back together! Looking forward to seeing everyone (with exceptional sanitary precautions).

A cocktail so pretty it'll make you blush, but don't underestimate it by its delicate looks. Two-Hundred Seeds is a cocktail from the genius mind of that keeps things fresh and simple with strawberry-infused gin and bitter bianco. It's sweet, uncomplicated, and stronger than you think. 📷:

The health and safety our guests and staff is our biggest priority! Below are the significant steps we’re taking this weekend to responsibly handle our obligations as hospitality professionals. Support restaurants and bars who care about you and care about their staff enough to provide paid sick leave and insurance options so our community can stay safe.

-Sick employees are not allowed to work.
-Paid sick leave is provided to these staff members.
-Health insurance options are provided for all staff members (And yes, we’ve been doing this for years).
-Working to add additional hand-washing stations where possible.
-Dirty plates and silverware cleared with disposable gloves. (Worried about that waste? We’re tracking our glove usage and will be buying matching carbon credits.)
-All tables are detailed with sanitizer after each seating.
-Door handles sanitized every fifteen minutes.

We will be operating in this manner for as long as possible, so know that you can count on us to take everything about this situation seriously. Thank you Houston for your ongoing support; we love you!

ATTENTION WINE LOVERS: Our in-house wine bro has a very important announcement! "Today we’ll be pouring a selection of 3 incredible Louis Dressner wines: Clos de La Roilette “Cuvée Christie” Gamay, which has wild, brambly, black and red fruits with granite notes that show just how easy it is to get addicted to Gamay. We’ll also have the Julien Pinon Vouvray, which tastes like like fresh pineapple juice, honey, hopes and dreams. For something more refreshing we’ll have cru Muscadet from Domaine de la Pepiere. These are the kinds of wines that overdeliver so much, it’s hard to understand just how good we have it. Even more exciting is that I’ll be pouring them alongside one of my wine Senseis - Josefa Concannon of Louis Dressner selections from 4:30pm-7:30pm. Come meet her, and drink these utterly magical wines for $12 a glass." Please come in for some of these wines, Justin's already chatting us up enough about these and we need him to offload all that wine geekery on someone else. @ Penny Quarter

This isn't your mom's spaghetti. It won't leave red stains on your shirt. It's also vegetarian-friendly. It's garlicky, but spiced up with fresh green peppercorn, oregano, and cooled off with slices of cucumber. Come in for a light and breezy meal that won't ruin your good clothes. 📷:
