We have decided to close The Pastry War. Our last day will be October 30th. We want to thank everyone for their constant support over the past decade. We want to thank every single person who has ever worked behind this bar - we’ve been so blessed to have you all. We want to thank our incredible guests who love this bar, especially our regulars who are as passionate about agave spirits as we are.

But most importantly, we want to thank the amazing producers responsible for the mezcal, tequila, and other spirits we carry, many of whom have personally visited our bar as we have visited almost all of their distilleries. We’ve done our very best to make sure this bar honored your traditions, culture, and values to the best of our ability. We create very little at this bar. Sure, we have tasty cocktails, but this bar is about and has always been about introducing people to the beautiful spirits of Mexico. Spirits that have been produced for generations, making our tenure as a bar a fleeting part of this glorious history that will continue long after we are gone.

Why are we closing? We reopened anticipating additional promised relief from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. Unfortunately, like two-thirds of applicants, we did not receive these vital funds. Downtown in particular has been hit hard by the past year because offices, hotels, and other necessary parts of business in this part of Houston have not yet returned. The lack of business, the lack of promised financial support, and the pending end of our lease term means that we cannot confidently renew our lease despite our very supportive landlord. We encourage everyone to support our neighbors downtown, and we know that downtown will continue to recover, just not at a pace that works for us.

ALL staff have been promised jobs at our other bars, but we have encouraged them to take this time and consider what is best for their future with or without us. Our posted hours will remain the same until our closure. 1/2 Price Mezcal Wednesdays and Happy Hour will continue as well. Thank you all for so many beautiful memories; we are proud of what we’ve accomplished. There will never be another Pastry War.

FINALLY! Siembra Metl Jorge Pérez Quiote, distilled with Lemongrass. One of our favorite Mezcaleros from Michoacán, and we finally have this gem in the bar! Enjoy it today for 1/2-OFF Mezcal Wednesdays!

1/2-OFF MEZCAL WEDNESDAY is in full swing today! Dressing up a few pours on these plates from who we worked with years back to get *just* right. Don’t worry if you can’t make it today - Happy Hour runs every day we are open with 1/2-off Margaritas from 4:00-6:00.

HAPPY HOUR IS BACK! Half-price Margaritas; Tequila OR Mezcal!!! 4:00-6:00, yes even Saturdays! We strongly believe this is the best Margarita in Houston, some come take advantage!!!

HALF-OFF MEZCALS are back! Every Wednesday ALL DAY! The whole mezcal list (yes, even the exceptionally delicious and rare - like this Arroqueno) is HALF PRICE. Come in and visit with our exceptionally pleasant and trained staff about all things mezcal. We’re open Wednesdays from 4:00p-midnight (Thur-Sat the rest of the week 4:00p-2:00a). See y’all soon!
