We don’t really hype up our Sunday only Cuban sandwich, because we’re not really a hype-up kinda place and we only confit enough pork to make twelve giant Cubanos.

But if you’re one of the folks that loves our Cubano you can also try this new Sunday only special. We serve these fried plantains with a dusting of black pepper and lime zest, along with a side of a carrot and chile dipping sauce very loosely inspired by Peruvian aji amarillo.

Why? Who knows, man. Just felt like it.

Also limited. But if you’re here on a Sunday you might as well ask. Or get here early.

If you’re looking for a spot of sunshine to break through the heavy clouds, may we suggest the Golden Hour?

We were enamored with this Covalle tomato water gin from Project Optimist when we first tasted it last year in New York. And when it finally became available in Texas we wanted to feature it in a drink that played with its fruity and savory qualities but also seemed a bit unexpected. So riffing on the yogurt sodas so popular in central and South Asia in the summer, we shook it up with mango, yogurt, a dash of salt, and topped it with cucumber tonic.

On the menu through the summer.

Sabrina’s is better by far of course

We kinda forgot to do some of our regular anniversary stuff, so how about this Saturday?

The petting zoo, which includes a creature I’ve never seen before, will be there from 4-6p and that’s probably all I can handle making boozy snow cones as well.

But you can get Jell-O shots and whatever other last minute specials we come up with all night.

Also we’ll be doing a charity raffle all night and drawing the winner Sunday. It’ll include a gift card and merch and some other stuff.

I’m sure I forgot to include stuff but I’ll add it later.

Cheers, yall. Love you.

So…Sunday’s World Cup games are a pretty fantastic matchup of booze.

And to celebrate you can get any of these four drinks for ten bucks all day.

You can choose a Norwegian or Brazilian swizzle made with Linie Aquavit or Novo Fogo Colibri with our pineapple lime cordial for the early match and our English Old Fashioned made with Cotswolds English Single Mart or our tequila old fashioned made with our delicious private barrel of Suerte Reposado (aged in French oak 😬)

World booze is just as fun as the World Cup

On this World Martini Day we’d like to take a moment to talk about a little unsung hero, our Rosewater Martini - an unashamed and unapologetically wet gin Martini made with blanc, rather than dry, vermouth, which drinks as softly as a satin pillow.

When we opened our doors ten years ago one of our primary goals was to get people to drink more gin around here, and over the past decade this lovely little darlin has led a whole lotta people to become devoted gin devotees.

We know some folks swear by dry vermouth in a Martini (unless of course you’re an advocate of the near zero vermouth Duke’s style glass of frozen gin - always a lot of blackout fun in a walkable city), but for us nothing quite fits into the lock and opens the door to the beauty of gin as a supple blanc vermouth from Chambéry like Dolin, in this case paired with an Irish rose gin from Glendalough (along with another more traditional London dry style gin).

Our house Martini is a gentle, languorous type of cocktail, the cocktail equivalent of someone you love softly touching the back of your neck and easing away the chattering parts of the day that demand, but don’t deserve, your attention.

If you prefer a different style, a drier style of Martini, of course please ask us, and we’ll make something exactly as you like it. We’re not the type to base our entire personality on a specific drink. But we do quite like this version and encourage you to try it if you haven’t already.

A world of more Martinis is a world most welcome.

Hi there. Wanna hear about a new drink?

Somewhere between a 19th Century punch recipe and a tiki drink lies the Breakaway Province

Batavia Arrack, Kirschwasser, Chambéryzette, Lemon, Orange flower water.

Want to hear a longer version? Got you covered.

Here’s a waaaaay too long post talking about it:

Our 10th anniversary is approaching (which feels insane) and we were thinking about the early days when Clear Lake felt like a completely blank slate for lots of nerdy booze stuff. We got to introduce so many of you to obscure, tasty spirits that have a ton of history and cultural relevance but normally nobody (understandably) gives a single s**t about…like at all…unless they live in the deepest, candlelit catacombs of reddit.

This Breakaway Province is a complex, funky, boozy way to harken back to those early days, as well as a love letter to people like Eric Seed, who founded Haus Alpenz in Minnesota to preserve and resurrect some of the worlds most interesting spirits and wines, allowing us to enjoy them and make life more fun and interesting.

The Breakaway Province features a blend of Batavia Arrack van Oosten, an Indonesian spirit distilled from molasses and red rice, and kirschwasser (an unaged cherry distillate, in this case from Oregon), both of which we infused with the beautiful Parisian Breakfast Tea from Mariage Frères, along with Dolin Chambéryzette, an absolutely gorgeous French alpine strawberry vermouth, lemon juice (from those classic lemon trees you always hear about), and a cheeky little dash of orange flower water.

None of the weird little esoteric or historic things we love are promised to us, especially in an age that aggressively pushes bland homogeneity and conformity. If we want to keep the lovable weirdo brands from disappearing into obscurity, at least in this case, we gotta keep supporting them. What’s the point of anything if it’s not interesting?

So it occured to me that only a handful of people realize we make a pretty tasty Cuban sandwich on Sundays. (Sorry only Sundays). And it’s a hefty boy. I could eat like one of these and hibernate like a bear.

Anyway this post is ostensibly about a delicious pork sandwich but then it unlocked a cascade of anxiety. Like initially I was thinking “oh I haven’t posted food in a while. Just drinks.” But know I realize that this means three posts in a row with the same background. I think that’s bad. Like we’re supposed to switch it up or something. Oh no terrible at social media.

Anyway I love being alive because I can have drinks and eat sandwiches and experience anxiety.

Happy Sunday!! Xoxo
