What a fun and educational week at Summer Camp! ☀️🐾🌱

Our campers kicked off the week with the Roots to Words Project in partnership with Fayette County Soil & Water, where they learned about native shrubs, wildlife habitats, and the important role plants play in our ecosystem.

Next, the Fayette County Humane Society visited to teach animal safety. Campers were thrilled to meet a sweet puppy during show-and-tell, and each child received a copy of Pablo's Puppies to take home and enjoy. 📚🐶

We wrapped up the week with engaging activities led by OSU Extension Fayette in the gymnasium. To add even more fun, Fayette County Family YMCA Director of Business, Amanda List brought her dog, Oliver Waffles, for a special lesson on caring for dogs with wrinkles. Campers helped give Oliver a spa day while learning about responsible pet care! 🛁🐾

A huge thank you to all of our community partners who helped make this week memorable, educational, and full of smiles. We can't wait to see what adventures next week brings!

🌍 Happy World Environment Day! 🌍

Today, the world is focusing on taking action for our climate and protecting our planet. Right here at the Fayette County Family YMCA, we believe big global changes start with small local seeds. 🌱✨

Through our Learning Garden, our YMCA kids, families, and community members are discovering how to care for the Earth firsthand. From learning about sustainable planting and composting to understanding where our food comes from, we are growing a greener future together. 🥦🥕

We love putting these green habits into practice all year long! Did you know?

♻️ Creative Recycling: We recycle all over the Y! In fact, we collected and recycled plastic lids to create the beautiful benches you see in the garden and right in front of the building.

🛠️ Sustainable Play: During our recent new playground build, we reused a ton of materials to keep them out of landfills.

📦 Paying it Forward: Instead of dumping our old playground equipment, we donated it! It is officially being repurposed and loved by families over in Good Hope. ❤️

By reducing, reusing, and recycling, we are teaching the next generation that everything can have a second life.

Putting the "HOPE" in HP HOPE! 🌍💻

Today we used our grant-funded refurbished computers as mobile research stations right out in the dirt. We've been identifying local garden pests, learning how to protect our plants, and discovering just how many beneficial insects are helping our garden thrive.

Tech + Nature = The perfect pair! 🌱✨
