Karen Von Blixen began her book "Out Of Africa" with the line "I had a farm in Africa." It is the tale of the craziness of her trying to raise coffee in the hills of Africa. Some would say she failed. Others would say her story was a success for all who tried.
I had a pub in Hot Springs Village. Tomorrow is our last day. We only lasted six months. Some would say we failed. I would say it was fun and crazy, and it got me out of my comfort zone of 26 years of teaching. It also got me to where I want to live on the shore of Lake Coronado and in the hills of the village.
Tomorrow we celebrate our last day of business with 50 cent mugs of beer until we run out of the kegs. Arkansas law says I can't give it away. Then we will sell the bottles of beer for a $1 until they run out. Our burgers will be $2 until we run out of buns.
It will be a celebration tomorrow, not a funeral. I will be alone as Amy is taking our daughter on a youth trip with our church in Texarkana, so service may be slow, but excited to start my retirement.
The pub itself may reappear in a different form, so stay tuned.
