Soulful Reharmonizations, Heavy Pocket, Sultry Vocals, Unexpected Turns

For the eighth edition of the series, two-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning singer-songwriter Keilana joins host and bandleader DeShannon Higa and Quadpod for one night of neo-soul jams and original music that lives between the velvet couch and the backbeat. This will be a “Sonic Bath” night. A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from West Oʻahu, Keilana has spent more than a decade performing throughout Hawaiʻi, New York City, and beyond, blending R&B, soul, acoustic music, and honest storytelling into a sound that is personal, lived-in, and real.

Those lessons stayed with him, and years later, his father’s passing ultimately pushed Taulia to stop putting music off and pursue his dream. Taulia’s debut album, Modern Day Cowboy, was recorded in Nashville, his music has landed on major country playlists, and his live shows have sold out venues across Hawaiʻi. Known for their rich harmonies, heartfelt originals, and deep respect for Hawai‘i’s musical roots, Kailua Moon brings fresh energy to beloved local favorites while honoring the artists and music that continue to connect island communities. Blending classic island hits, contemporary Hawaiian favorites, and stories behind the music, each evening brings something a little different. This month, Kailua Moon welcomes special guest Alx Kawakami, acclaimed singer-songwriter and one of Hawaiʻi’s most recognizable contemporary voices, whose signature vocals and exceptional musicianship make him a perfect addition to the Local Classics stage.

A Special HKF Month Music Event!

The Next Verse brings generations of Hawaiʻi artists together for a special evening celebrating original music, mentorship, collaboration, and the journey of the songwriter - from finding your voice and writing that first song to building a lifetime through music. Presented as part of Henry Kapono Foundation Month and the ongoing partnership between the Henry Kapono Foundation and Kailua Music School, the evening features three distinctive Hawaiʻi artists: reggae, R&B and island music favorite Irie Love; blues and roots powerhouse Tavana; and award-winning alternative rock artist and Kailua Music School Director Erin Smith. Sharing the stage will be the next generation of Hawaiʻi songwriters and performers from Kailua Music School: Mila Hamm, Finn Masterson, Isabel Norvell, Meilia Perez, Kamea Sargent, Harley Kruse, and Ryzen Maldonado.

Join us Saturday for a Miles Davis Centennial Celebration - Kind Of New / Kind Of Blue.

The seventh installment of the acclaimed JaZz Up Close series celebrates the 100th anniversary of one of the most influential musicians in jazz history, Miles Davis. Kind of New / Kind of Blue honors his legendary 1959 masterpiece, Kind of Blue, widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz albums ever recorded. Led by acclaimed trumpeter DeShannon Higa and exceptional ensemble featuring Reggie Padilla (alto saxophone), Larry Cook (tenor saxophone), Dan Del Negro (piano), John Kolivas (bass), and Darryl Pellegrini (drums), the evening features a complete live performance of the iconic album, presented in its original sequence, from the unforgettable opening notes of “So What” to the haunting beauty of “Flamenco Sketches.”

Country Grit. Island Soul. And A Little Rebellion. Get ready for a Friday night celebrating the artists who broke the rules and changed country music forever. The Americana Experiment: Outlaw Country brings the unmistakable sound and spirit of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and today’s country trailblazers to Kapono’s at The Lounge. Led by HKF Next Level artist Jacob Staron, Country Kine puts its own Hawaiʻi-grown spin on the music, blending classic and modern country with reimagined local favorites, extended jams, fiery guitar and pedal steel, and plenty of spontaneous musicianship. Joining Jacob on guitar and vocals are Rand Anderson on vocals and pedal steel, Taylor Cutcomb on bass, and Michael Sommer on drums.
