One Mile of Hell Bar - Hill City, SD By the early 1900's, however things had pretty much settled down, with reports of court settlements outnumbering obituaries in the local newspaper.

It all began in February 1876, when placer gold deposits were discovered in the stream, Hill City did not earn its Name until later on, when it was the town had “a church on each end, with one mile of Hell in between.” This is no doubt referred to the 15 or more bars in town, and the gunfights and rowdy behavior associated with them. In January of 2000 Patty Houska/Colvin and Mike Colvin purchased the Hill City Cafe. 2018 started a complete remodel and finished the bar remodel in July of 2022 and Named the bar “One Mile of Hell Bar” With the opening of the bar, the One Mile Bloody Mary was created by Crystal Colvin daughter of Mike and Patty Colvin.
