Alright, Hendersonville. We know the part you’re all most interested in is not the tables but we’ve gotta do this bit by bit and we’re starting here.

All but three tables are FOR SALE. These tables are perfect for family/board game nights, with their slightly uneven surfaces selected specifically for making it easier to pick cards up off of. They’re also amazingly easy to wipe down and maintain.

Ha! Gotcha!

Of course I’m not done! How could it be over when there’s one very important person that hasn’t been spoken about: Kurt himself.

Kurt poured everything he had and more into the Kingmaker. He did it with a smile and he did it without hesitation, he took the hits over the years when the world was not so kind and learned to roll with them- there were so many factors that lead to where we are now, but he held on as best he could until the very end.

No matter who you were, you were home and you were safe in his bar. If someone was harassing others, where others wanted to get angry and throw the offender out, Kurt stepped up and had a conversation with them so things could end peacefully. Kurt genuinely loved everything about his job, he was particular with what beers were put on draft, particular with how the food was made, the music that played, the way he and everyone behind the bar represented themselves- every part of it shined with his love for what he does.

If you were having a hard time, Kurt would sit and talk to you. I’ve caught him having so many chats with regulars simply because they looked down. He had something nice to say to everyone who walked in, always had something to offer everyone.

Kurt sacrificed everything so the rest of us could have a home and he did it with a smile. He loved it BECAUSE the rest of us could have a home, he says it frequently “The bar is just as much theirs as it is mine.” The Kingmaker may be gone but the friend groups, memories and relationships will never be; and we all owe our thanks for that to Kurt.

Join me in saying thank you- thank you Kurt for bringing the best bar to Main Street and thank you for giving all of us a home.

One more.

Kurt’s parents are absolute angels. They support their son, go to his bar, listen to his problems and love him unequivocally. Ever since I have known Kurt they have been there for him, day in and day out. They listened to his hardships, his worries and fears. They opened their hearts and home to me! They unquestionably accept everyone with a good heart into their space.

Jan.. Not enough tribute can be made to Jan. The Kingmaker was HER bar as much as it was Kurt’s. If not for Jan, I wouldn’t be here, Kurt wouldn’t be here, Jason, Randall, Ira, so so many people wouldn’t be here. She started this with Kurt, it’s her place, her baby and what she sacrificed everything for. Jan put everything she had and more into it and I absolutely would not know anyone I do today without her. Everyone owes their friendships and home away from home to her as much as they do Kurt.

So to close out our final night- let’s raise a glass to Kurt’s parents, Tamera and Charles Darnell, and to the wonderful, passionate Jan Darnell.

This Friday our Kick The Keg event takes place! Tap Beer and Pretzels will be at half price! Come on out Friday night to help us drain the kegs and end on a good note with family and friends.
