“Authentic New Orleans cooking is a world-class cuisine that has remained traditional in its roots while adapting to the influx of cultures from the world over ~ focusing of fresh, sustainable meats and produce," says owner Matthew Norman of his favorite cuisine. "The food is as light and fresh as anything you are going to get on the coast; as deep and complex of a meal as you are going to get in the heart of the New Orleans with their astounding number of traditions and ingredients; and as soulful as you will come to expect from a restaurant born of a boy raised in Birmingham, Alabama."

With his first job in restaurants starting back in 1996, Norman journeyed full-circle to discover the intricacies of the restaurant industry, cultivating a view of guest service and standards that were always only reserved for finer restaurants. The menu will feature traditional dishes from the many regions of Louisiana as well as the gulf coast, all made from scratch in time honored tradition, including various fresh herbs, shellfish, seasonings and vegetables. The restaurant will also proudly offer an extended wine menu, fresh cocktail list and craft draft beers.

Bywater Oyster Bar and Grill is housed in a building dated back to 1890 and possibly earlier, a symbol of stability and time honored tradition. The early 1900’s building has been lovingly restored to build on its original beauty, and the interiors designed to include both "chic" contemporary touches and, most important, inviting traditional elements of like architecture you will find throughout New Orleans.
