πΈ LIVE JAM AT THE PHOENIX β SUNDAY @ 2PM π₯π€
It feels like the music world has gotten a little quieter lately.
Weβve recently said goodbye to names known around the world β Dolly Parton and Tim Curry β artists whose work became part of the soundtrack of people's lives.
But if you're a musician around Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, or any of the small towns and stages in between, you know something else:
Music doesn't only leave a legacy when the whole world knows your name.
Sometimes a musical legacy is built one bar, one church, one city band, one student, one open mic, one rehearsal, and one Saturday-night gig at a time.
Our region has lost some of those people recently, too.
π΅ Ian Frye of Heathen Music Labs in Fargo β musician, educator, and a genuinely lovely human being.
π΅ Larry Anderson of Flandreau β trombonist and community musician who helped bring the Flandreau City Band back to life.
π΅ Thomas βT-Boneβ Knutson of Fargo β keyboard player and lifelong rock & roller.
Those names might not mean something to everyone.
But somewhere, there's a musician who learned something from them.
Someone who shared a stage with them.
Someone who remembers a song they played.
Someone who is a better musician because their paths crossed.
That's the thing about a local music community β we leave pieces of ourselves with each other.
And someday, every one of us plays our last song.
So while we're here β let's play.
Bring the guitar that's been sitting in the case.
Bring the song you've been wanting somebody to play with you.
Sit behind the drums. Grab the mic. Play the keys. Pick up the bass. Bring the horn.
Maybe teach somebody a song.
Maybe learn one.
Maybe play with somebody you've never played with before.
Or just pull up a chair and listen.
You don't have to be famous.
You don't have to be perfect.
You just have to show up.
