Ralph Switch History- One of our followers Kay, sought us out last year and has since become such a special part of this renovation. She has not only visited our property all the way from North Carolina and shared countless stories, but continues to send me photos and insights into the past life of this grain elevator property, that was ran by her father Conway Kuykendall. At the time it was called Randall County Grain & Supply Company. We are so very lucky to have Kay as a historian for this property that has come to mean so much to us!

Funny how life turns out…

Fixer upper to fairytale is about taking something old and forgotten and breathing new life back into it. This grain elevator was never intended to be used as a wedding venue, but we see it as the perfect place for celebrations and gatherings.

POV: You bought an abandoned grain elevator and suddenly “renovation” means shoveling bird sh** and ripping out steel walls. 😂 This place has been abandoned for 20 years… and we’re uncovering every bit of what was left behind.

I have a really odd attachment to my work boots. I was recommended these by a work colleague because I was tired of my feet getting wet going into work when it rained and snowed. Fast forward to now and I’ve worn this brand boot every single silos work day for 1.5 years. My first pair still going strong. Much like the snow shovel that has been used most of the renovation thus far, you can pry these boots from my cold, dead hands.

For those who enjoy the more condensed before and after….. here is before and after and a little in between.

TWO WEEKS. 😭 And we finally have a front door.

After waiting two weeks with our brand-new glass doors removed and our barn completely open to the elements, today was the day we finally poured the concrete and put those doors BACK where they belong. 🙌

What looks like “just concrete” to most people is actually a huge milestone in bringing this abandoned grain elevator back to life.

One more step closer to turning 20 years of abandonment into a place people will celebrate for generations. ❤️

And trust me… after everything this property has been through, seeing those doors standing again hits DIFFERENT.

Welcome back to Fixer Upper to Fairytale. 🏚️➡️✨

Follow along — we’re just getting started.

Work has to get done whether it’s renovations or ranching. We are just two people and thankful for all of the help and support we have for our ranch chores! Mel Hartman Carrie Finley
