THANK YOU, HAMTRAMCK.

Another Hamtramck Labor Day Festival is in the books, and we honestly can’t thank everyone enough who helped make this weekend what it was.

Thank you to everyone who came out, whether you’ve been joining us for decades or this was your first time experiencing the festival.

Thank you to the musicians who filled our stages, the food and merchandise vendors who kept everyone fed and entertained, the parade participants who brought Jos. Campau to life, and everyone crazy enough to race a canoe down the street while people threw water balloons at them.

And an enormous thank you to our volunteers.

This festival doesn’t magically appear every Labor Day weekend. It takes months of planning, meetings, phone calls, emails, hauling, building, troubleshooting, problem-solving, long days, late nights and a whole lot of people saying, “Alright, we’ll figure it out.”

And somehow, we always do.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who simply showed up. You danced. You ate. You drank. You watched bands. You cheered on the parade and the races. You ran into old friends and probably made a few new ones.

For three days, Hamtramck got to be exactly what makes this little city special: loud, weird, welcoming, diverse, unpredictable and completely itself.

We’re proud to keep this festival free, community-driven and volunteer-run, and we couldn’t do any of it without all of you.

From everyone behind the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival:

Thank you for another incredible weekend.

See you next Labor Day.

Apparently Metro Times gets us.

Free admission. Great music. Local food. Carnival rides. Canoe races. A little chaos. And a whole lot of Hamtramck.

Thanks to Metro Times for the fantastic write-up on the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival — and for understanding exactly what makes this thing special:

“Classic Hamtramck — somehow recognizable but still ever evolving.”

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

See you this weekend.

Long live Hamtramck.

YES, THERE WILL BE TYSKIE.

Because you can’t throw a proper Hamtramck festival without a little Polish beer in the mix.

Tyskie will be flowing at the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival all weekend long. (unless we run out)

Cold Polish beer. Live music. Carnival rides. Ridiculous amounts of food. Old friends, new friends, and at least one person you’ve been strategically avoiding since 2007.

Some traditions are worth keeping.

A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODORE & THE PIRATE

We have inspected the course.

We have inspected the vessels.

We have inspected the beer.

Two out of three passed inspection.

Therefore, by whatever authority the Hamtramck Yacht Club has bestowed upon us, the Annual Canoe Races will commence Labor Day at HIGH NOON-ISH.

There will be canoes.
There will be wheels.
There will be questionable seamanship.

And most importantly:

THERE WILL BE WATER BALLOONS.

Spectators: bring ammunition. The crews are not merely consenting targets — they're expecting it.

Soak the Pirate.
Soak the Commodore.
Soak your friends.
Soak a complete stranger and deal with the consequences.

Monday, September 7
High Noon-ish
Joseph Campau (north of the Carnival)

No river.
No lake.
No actual yacht club.

Somehow, still canoe races.

START YOUR ENGINES.

— The Commodore & The Pirate

P.S. If you come to a canoe race in Hamtramck and expect to stay dry, that's between you and God.

HAMTRAMCK HERE WE GO.

This Saturday at NOON, Joseph Campau comes alive for the 46th Annual Hamtramck Labor Day Festival!

Three days. Two stages. Dozens of bands. A full carnival. Food from around the world. Wrestling in the street. A Labor Day parade. And, because this is Hamtramck, grown adults racing canoes on wheels down Joseph Campau while people throw water balloons at them.

And admission is completely FREE.

LIVE MUSIC ALL WEEKEND
From some of the best bands in Detroit to national headliners, including Saves The Day, Shadow Show, Esham, The Polish Muslims, Danny D, Credit Card, Imaginatron and a whole lot more.

THE CARNIVAL
Anderson Midways takes over with rides, games, carnival food and plenty for the kids, and the kids-at-heart.

COME HUNGRY
Hamtramck is one of the most diverse cities anywhere, and our festival eats like it. Polish food, Balkan food, Caribbean food, BBQ, street food, ice cream, festival classics and more.

WRESTLING IN THE STREET
Because apparently two stages and a carnival weren't enough.

LABOR DAY PARADE MONDAY AT 1:30 PM

HAMTRAMCK YACHT CLUB CANOE RACES MONDAY AT HIGH NOON
One of Hamtramck's finest traditions: wheeled canoes, questionable athletic decisions, water balloons, buckets, sq**rt guns and one glorious wooden captain's wheel waiting for the winners.

But the best part of this festival has always been Hamtramck itself.

For more than four decades, people have packed Joseph Campau on Labor Day weekend to celebrate this weird, loud, welcoming little city we call home. Different cultures, different generations, different music, different food, all crammed together into two square miles and one ridiculously fun weekend.

No admission tickets. No cover charge. Just show up.
