A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped at Oakland Cemetery today! 🇺🇸

Together with Moose Lodge, we were able to bring several organizations and volunteers together and knock out a lot of mowing and cleanup in a short amount of time.

It’s amazing what we can accomplish when our community comes together to honor and care for those who came before us.

Millard Harlow is nearly 80 years old and has been mowing grass at Oakland Cemetery in Hampton since 1957. Now veterans and active-duty service members are joining him — and he says he is not stopping anytime soon.

If you can spare the time, we invite you to join us at the beach parking lot on Fenwick Road/ E. Gate at Fort Monroe at 8:30 AM.

At 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the North Tower 25 years ago, we will begin walking one step for each of the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

If you can’t join us in person, we still encourage you to participate wherever you are. Complete the 2,977 steps and share a photo on our social media page as we remember and honor those we lost.

2,977 lives. 2,977 steps. We will never forget.
