Boater Advisory: Upstream of downtown Red Wing to Wisconsin Channel (River Miles 792.1–793.7)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is advising boaters to use caution while navigating this section of the Mississippi River, roughly between just upstream of downtown Red Wing and where the Wisconsin Channel begins.

For most recreational boats, this isn't a reason to avoid the area. It's simply a good reminder to:

• Stay between the channel markers.
• Avoid cutting across bends or outside the marked channel.
• Keep an eye on your depth finder, especially if you're unfamiliar with the area or water levels are lower than normal.

The Corps also indicates that dredging is expected in this area within the week.

The navigation chart highlights the section where extra attention is recommended.

Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday in Red Wing!

Join us as we celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial with an unforgettable Fourth of July on the Mississippi River!

Gather your family, invite your friends, and spend the day enjoying one of Red Wing’s favorite traditions as we commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary. Pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs or blankets, and settle into one of our beautiful riverfront parks for an afternoon and evening filled with community, entertainment, and patriotic fun.

🎆 Fireworks | 10:00 PM

The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display launching from Hager City, Wisconsin, lighting up the Mississippi River and the Red Wing skyline. Find your favorite viewing spot and enjoy an incredible finale to this historic celebration.

Levee Park: The Heart of the Celebration

Levee Park will be the place to gather throughout the day, with activities for all ages leading up to the fireworks.

Live Music – Beginning around 4:00 PM, enjoy live performances along the riverfront thanks to Big Turn Music Fest and Red Wing Arts

Kids Pie-Eating Contest – 4:00 PM, proudly hosted by the St. James Hotel.

Boat Parade – 8:00 PM, traveling from Bay Point Park to the bridge.

Family Fun – Enjoy classic favorites including hopscotch, freeform sidewalk chalk art, and plenty of opportunities to create lasting memories together. Help us fill the park with patriotic red, white, and blue!

This Independence Day marks a once-in-a-generation milestone, and there’s no better place to celebrate than right here in Red Wing.
