These two pictures represent just how far we've come in the last 7 years.

Our boys have grown into exceptional (and tall) men.

Our brewery has grown into a landmark in the Greenville beer scene.

We couldn't have done it without the support that we have given each other and the support we have received from the community. What was once a dream became a reality, and Greenville has given us more than we could have asked for.

We are proud of our accomplishments, from being one of the top new craft breweries when we opened in 2016 to a top 10 finish at the US Beer Open Championship in 2019. All 25 medals we've been awarded are from the hard work and dedication of our production team, and every beer sold through our taproom came from our enthusiastic staff. While these accolades represented our attention to quality and passion behind this project, nothing could match the feeling of giving back to the Upstate. Each organization we partnered with represented something that meant more to us than just writing check. Their missions resonated with us and we are proud to have been able to support so many meaningful causes.

We have seen the Upstate beer scene blossom and we have so much respect for each and every one of our fellow brewers and business owners. These are lifelong connections, and that's something we will take with us even after we close our doors one last time.

We'd like to thank our neighbors in Hampton Station. We know we can get a little rowdy at times, but y'all have set a new bar for how businesses can support each other.

Thank you to everyone who has been to the taproom, tried our beer at a festival, volunteered for one of our events, or shared one of our beers with friends and family. At the end of the day, we did this for you.

Today we will pour our last beer at 1320 Hampton Ave. Tomorrow we embark on a new adventure.

Cheers, Prost, Salud, Slainte

Be a Community, Grow a Community

This saying was at the forefront of our core values. When we opened Birds Fly South 7 years ago, we wanted to be more than just a brewery, we wanted to be part of the community.

These partners have been a core part of our growth and we’ve been more than happy to share our space with them.

Each one has provided something unique to our customers, whether it was educational, experiential or for the betterment of those in our city and beyond.

We appreciate the partnership and this weekend we raise a glass to you.

Going out with a Big Band!

During our final night, we have the pleasure of hosting Project X Big Band in the Aviary. Their smooth, soulful sounds will transport you to that funky place we’ve all come to love in our little slice of Greenville.

Project X is a working name and they want some audience participation in finding their permanent name.

We will be extending hours to make the last night one to remember.

Good evening Flock,

Shawn and Lindsay here, and there's no easy way to say this, but with a heavy heart and utmost sadness, we must announce Birds Fly South Ale Project taproom and on-site production will be closing after our final jazz event on October 10th.

As we look back on these past 7 years, we have a lot to be proud of and it's only upon reflection that we realize what we've accomplished.  We have had a wonderfully fulfilling and dynamic time getting to know everyone not only in our community but also everyone that traveled in from across the world to raise a glass in the Birdhouse.  The community welcomed us with open arms and we made it a point to give back to it as much as possible.  The Flock is what kept us pursuing greatness as we focused on quality, award winning beer.

We wish that this was a fairy tale ending, but recognize all good things must come to an end.  Timing is everything, and we embarked on an expansion to increase our taproom sales that have taken a hit over the last year.  We don't regret that decision, only the way we went about it.

The silver lining is that we are able to step away from the stress of running a business to have more time to focus on our family.  This is our opportunity to embark on a new adventure and enjoy a new pace of life.

We have had the opportunity to let the staff know and have waited long enough to go public as they secure positions elsewhere.  We are happy that they will be here until the end, something that continues to melt our hearts.

Over the next few days, we want to see everyone come in and buy us out of beer.  We plan on extending hours, offering discounts and will continue with all the events we have planned.  Watch our stories as more information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Shawn, Lindsay, and The Flock

Bottles are Dead.
——
Starting this week, green bottles are being sold at a discount:

375ml Cases - $15
500ml Cases - $18
750ml Cases - $20

We love our glass, but as you’ve noticed, we’ve been making the transition from the classic green bottle to 16oz cans over the last few years.

As much as we will miss the hiss of a cap or pop of a good saber, we know it’s easier for people to recycle or enjoy by the pool or lake in cans.

We have a lot of fun vintage items so come on through and find your favorite old school brew.

Our summer cleaning is your treasure hunt.

Mixed cases of 12 bottles will be sold for $18 each.

Love.Birds 7
——
It’s no secret we love farmhouse beers. Our solera program is something we cherish and have built for years.

As we etch another line into the walls of the brewery, we revisited the foeders that BFS was built on. The core saisons that have been maturing and represent Funk First.
——
Blended for complexity, fruited with mango for balance. Tart, funky, fruity, and dry.

The quintessential Birds beer.

Cheers.

We’ve got some fun things releasing in the Birdhouse this week!
——
We asked our Flockers which beer they would like to see again and an overwhelming amount of them said the Strawberry IPA. We used to change something about this beer every year and this was no exception because we made it a dank hazy IPA.
——
Our annual anniversary beer may be a few days late, but it will be well worth it. This tart farmhouse ale was blended from our solera program foeders and fruited with a hefty amount of mango. It’s a wonderful balance of tart, fruity and dry.

Thank You.

We appreciate every single one of our Flockers that came out for our 7th anniversary yesterday.

It was hot, the beers were cold and the vibe was perfect.

For those of you that missed out, we have less than 1 keg each of the Wooo Tang Tangelo and Mango Sour Ale, as well as the vintage 2019 Peanut Butter Brownie BBA Wolves in the Piano.

Draft and cans of our first hard seltzer and Helles style lager are also available to combat the heat wave.

Cheees flockers! See you soon in the Birdhouse.

Our Story

PROGRESSIVELY OLD SCHOOL

We make craft beer with a throwback approach. Through a combination of time-tested brewing/blending methods and modern practices, we create beer that is complex, thought-provoking, and above all delicious.

AN ALE PROJECT

We focus on truly slow beer – mainly Farmhouse Ales and Saisons in our wild brewery and lagers on our clean production side – with a passion for experimenting with other wild and traditional styles from Imperial Stouts to IPAs to Dutch Kuits.
