"The Richland" JOHN B. BOX - Owner & Operator of THE RICHLAND - 25 years. He Sang, bartended & counseled people all his life. He was a one of a kind & a giving man!

I miss his singing, his sense of humor.... our talks..... his advice.... I always noticed his kindness towards others.... never judging only helping.... he was the best listener, guess he learned this over the many years of bartending. Everyone he met was a friend. In his younger years he had the funniest stories of family and friends. He should have written a book. The Richland will never be the

same with out him, therefore it will never be a "BAR" again. Not sure what will become of the Richland .... we have not sold it yet (as of 1/14). It's just hard to let go. However, we are renting it to Chuck Haynes for storage for his business, he owns part of the property out back of it.

I have not lived in Ga since 1995 . I visited THE RICHLAND as often as I could. When we lived in CT it was maybe once a year but after we moved to Charlotte we tried to get down a couple times a years. As dad got older, I visited more (4 x a year) often as he needed more help. I ask him to move in with us & I also did research & found a place in the next town over from him where all his friends could visit. A nice home set in the woods (with birds) & with good country cookin. He would not move even with many of us asking him to. He did it His Way!
He had a bartender who came in daily. Unfortunately he fell in a closed in area with no heat trying to get dog food. He was unable to get up. He was found the next morning barely alive. I was 1/2 way there (4 hour drive) when i received the call from hospital he had passed. I had stopped at a rest area thank goodness i wasn’t driving ( just me & my dog) when i got the call they were unable to save him.
I was 15 minutes away from hospital when I received another call they were sending him to Atlanta (1 1/2 hours away) They wouldn’t wait 15 minutes & I was told I couldn’t go to Atlanta to see him b4 cremation . A very tragic death all around. ( 2-12-12) He was 86.

You were a father figure for many people thru out your life but I was your one & only child....(as far as we know lol).... your favorite daughter we used to say. Now I get to say it last.... I LOVE YOU MORE! We all miss ya DAD!
