Years ago, I attended the NC A&T Computer Science Honors Banquet as a student trying to figure life out.

Long nights. Deadlines. Growth. Vision.

Fast forward to today…

Shake Sum’n was booked to serve signature mocktails at the same banquet I once attended as a student.

Full circle.

One season you’re sitting in the audience learning… the next season you’re contributing to the experience.

Seeing students, faculty, and professionals enjoying something we built was surreal.

𝐈𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞.

And sometimes the rooms you once prayed for become the rooms you return to with purpose.

It’s truly an honor to serve at the place that helped shape me.

She might just remind the mixologist the first miracle Jesus performed was turning water to wine.

She might make a photoshoot become a true speakeasy while outdoors in sweltering heat.

She might remind you why Shake Sum’n is more than just a bar.

She might take a few pictures and hype me up.

She might love my drinks.

If you bring your mom to work, 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙎, , might not bring her back because mom may not be working.

At least I have a forever friend, but she might be fired. She told me she is retired anyway. Beautiful soul,🫶🏾.

Life is a lot…

When I do take moments to talk in-depth and real with my trusted network, I often hear “that’s a lot” or “I didn’t know you were coming this heavy”

Life moves fast.

So fast that sometimes I’m already on the next thing before I even finish the thought…

Did I stop at that light?
Did I reply to that message?
Did I actually take a moment to appreciate what’s happening right now?

Then, life slowed me down.

In a conversation with photographer from Alabama, she talked about how much she disliked traffic. The waiting, the stillness, the pause.

And without even realizing it, I told her something I needed to hear myself:

There’s value in the traffic.
In the pause.
In the stillness.

Even when it feels like nothing is happening… we’re still moving forward.

I am reminded that sometimes the destination isn’t the lesson.
It’s the stillness.

So here’s to me not rushing. Not thinking about the next move. Just present.

Grateful for new connections, aligned energy, and moments that remind me to slow down.

Captured in stillness, by someone I was meant to meet.
