Sometimes the best compliments are the ones you hear when nobody knows who you are.
A little while back, I was walking around the Village with my youngest daughter, killing some time while my wife and older daughter were selling Girl Scout cookies at the pub. We ended up by the fountain, where we met another really nice family with a little one about the same age.
As small-town Village life tends to go, the kids started “playing” — or at least doing the little kid version of playing — and I got to talking with the parents.
Turns out, they were originally from Buffalo, New York.
They had no idea I was one of the owners of Greendale’s Panther Pub & Eatery, but as we were chatting about food, they mentioned that Panther Pub was the best place around to go for wings.
Coming from someone from Buffalo, that one hit different.
For those who may not know, Chris and I — James — aren’t just the owners of the pub. We’re Greendale residents, next door neighbors, and parents. Between the two of us, we have five kids just getting started in the Greendale school system. This is the community we live in, raise our families in, and care deeply about.
That’s why moments like this mean so much to us.
As summer kicks off and the Village fills up with events, patio nights, familiar faces, and new memories, we just wanted to share this little story. Feedback from fellow Greendale residents matters to us because we’re not just serving customers — we’re serving our neighbors.
We’re genuinely proud to be here day in and day out, and we’re thrilled to share another Greendale summer with all of you.
