🥃 Daddy Rack Single Barrel Cask Strength | 122.5 Proof
💨 La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero 700

No work tomorrow, so I figured tonight deserved something with a little more horsepower.

Pulled out this 2025 Daddy Rack Single Barrel, Barrel 01. Five years old, double mellowed, 122.5 proof, and bottle 127 of only 300.

Tonight I’m getting a lot of peach, cherry and pecan out of it. Plenty of proof, but the fruit and nuttiness are what keep bringing me back to the glass.

For the cigar, I went with an old-school heavyweight. The LFD Double Ligero 700 is a big, dark smoke and pretty much exactly what you’d expect from the name. Lots of earth, coffee and chocolate, with some pepper hanging around underneath.

Nothing subtle about tonight.

Big cigar. Big pour. Plenty of time.

That’ll work.

Cheers!

🥃 Blue Note Honey Rye Cask 2025 | 116.49 Proof
💨 LCA Killer Cameroon #151 | 5.5 x 54 Box Press

Saturday night at Grumpy’s.

Pulled the Blue Note Honey Rye Cask back out and figured the Killer Cameroon might be just weird enough to work with it.

Turns out, pretty damn good call.

The Blue Note is a 95/5 rye finished in honey barrels and bottled at 116.49 proof. Plenty of rye spice still hanging around, but that honey finish gives it a sweeter side that makes this bottle a lot of fun.

The Killer Cameroon is an interesting one too. Nicaraguan Cameroon Negro wrapper, Estelí Habano binder, Condega and Estelí filler, and it already has a year of age on it. Dark as hell for something wearing the Cameroon name.

Rich, dark, spicy, a little sweet, and plenty of flavor from both sides without either one taking over the night.

Sometimes you just put two things together because they sound good.

Sometimes it actually works. 😂

This one worked.

Cheers!

🥃 Smokeye Hill Barrel Proof Blue Corn | 132.4 Proof
💨 Room101 17th Anniversary Toro

Finally got a chance to sit down in the garage tonight.

It had been a while since I pulled the Smokeye Hill off the shelf, and I forgot how much I liked this bottle. Tonight I was getting vanilla, cherry, citrus and rye spice. Big pour, plenty of heat, but a lot more going on than just the proof.

The Room101 17th was one of today’s pickups and a first for me. It’s a 6 x 52 Toro, all Nicaraguan, made at AJ Fernandez’s factory in Estelí. Room101 went with a pretty straightforward recipe on this one, but the flavor is anything but boring.

Lots of coffee and chocolate from the start, with that heavier Nicaraguan character underneath it. Rich, bold, and right in my wheelhouse.

A couple pours and a good chunk of the cigar later, this pairing was exactly what I wanted tonight. Nothing complicated. Just a big bourbon, a full-flavored cigar, and a little time in the garage.

Definitely a pairing I’d run back.

Cheers!

🥃 Barrell Cigar Blend | 111.2 Proof
💨 Diamond Crown Black Diamond Emerald

Tuesday night at Grumpy’s and this one ended up being a hell of a pairing.

The Black Diamond Emerald by J.C Newman is fantastic. Rich, dark, smooth, and just kept getting better as it went. Plenty of flavor without ever getting rough or overdone.

The Barrell Cigar Blend was right at home with it. Big enough to stay interesting, but the cigar was still the star of the night.

I don’t say this often, but this one is getting close to a 10/10 for me.

Box worthy. No question.

Cheers! 🥃💨

🥃 Stagg Batch 24D | 127.4 Proof
💨 Plasencia Alma del Fuego Candente

Sunday night at Grumpy’s.

Went with the Alma del Fuego tonight and figured the Stagg 24D was the right bottle to pull with it.

About halfway in, I started picking up orange, spice, earth and wood from the cigar. The Stagg had enough proof and richness to stay right there with it without turning the whole thing into a fight.

Really good smoke. Really good pour.

Pretty solid way to close out the weekend.

Cheers! 🥃💨

🥃 Dark Arts French Oak | 9 Year | 115.46 Proof
💨 Patina Red Pill Robusto

Saturday night at Grumpy’s.

I picked up the Red Pill yesterday and didn’t feel like letting it sit very long.

The Dark Arts is bringing caramel, toasted oak, vanilla, baking spice and some darker fruit. The Red Pill is giving me cocoa, coffee, earth, pepper and plenty of char.

This cigar has some weight to it, but the French oak finish on the bourbon gives the whole pairing a little more going on than just big proof and heavy smoke.

About halfway through, the darker notes really start settling in. Coffee, chocolate and spice hang around for a while.

Good cigar. Good pour. No reason to overcomplicate it.

Cheers from Grumpy’s. 🥃💨

🥃 Green River Full Proof | 117.3 Proof
💨 Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Toro

Friday night at Grumpy’s.

One pour left in the Green River Full Proof, so tonight seemed like a good night to finish it off.

Green River Full Proof has been a really solid bottle. Plenty of caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, oak and spice, with enough proof to keep things interesting.

The H99 is right in my wheelhouse. Pepper, earth, leather, cedar and cocoa with plenty of flavor from start to finish.

A strong bourbon, a strong cigar and an empty bottle when the night’s over.

That’ll work.

Cheers! 🥃💨

🥃 Silk Velvet Small Batch Select (107 Proof)
💨 Drew Estate Nica Rustica Broadleaf

Tuesday night at Grumpy’s Bar.

I had a feeling these two might get along.

The Nica Rustica is exactly what I want out of a Broadleaf. Dark, earthy, plenty of coffee and spice, and just rough enough around the edges to keep it interesting.

Then there’s the Silk Velvet. Notes of cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, and oak. At 107 proof, it has enough weight to hang around without turning the whole night into a fight.

A few sips in and this one started making a lot of sense.

Rich, a little rustic, a little sweet, and plenty of flavor all the way through.

Nothing fancy about it.

Just a damn good Tuesday night pairing.

Cheers! 🥃💨

🥃 Old Overholt 12 Year Cask Strength • 117 Proof
💨 Foundation Tabernacle Goliath

Well, I saved the Goliath for another night.

Apparently one night was enough. 😂

Pulled out the Old Overholt 12 Year tonight and figured 117-proof rye sounded like a pretty good place to start.

Good call.

There’s a lot going on here. Cocoa, coffee, pepper, some sweetness, red fruit, cinnamon and plenty of oak. Every few sips or puffs seems to pull something a little different out of it.

For something involving a fat Broadleaf perfecto and cask strength rye, it’s actually a lot more balanced than I expected.

Not exactly a light Monday night pairing.

But nobody asked for one.

Cheers! 🥃💨

🥃 Weller Full Proof Center Point Store Pick • 114 Proof
💨 LCA Moon Traveler

Sunday night at Grumpy’s Bar.

The Moon Traveler definitely gets your attention with the packaging, but there’s a legit cigar underneath it. Dark chocolate, oak, earth, pepper and a touch of sweetness show up early and keep building.

This Center Point Weller Full Proof pick brings plenty of caramel, vanilla, dark fruit and oak at 114 proof.

Cool presentation. Better cigar than I expected. Really solid pairing. This is way better than any whistlin’ bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, ho**ey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don’ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or even a whistlin’ kitty chaser.

Cheers! 🥃💨
