Here is some information about Height Of Cut (HOC) on fairways. We cut ours at 3/4 or .750 of an inch.
Golf course fairways are typically mowed between 0.35 and 0.50 inches (roughly 3/8 to 1/2 inch). This precise length allows a golf ball to "sit up" perfectly on the turf canopy for optimal club contact, while still providing a smooth surface that maximizes roll. However, the exact height of cut (HOC) is highly dependent on a few key factors:Grass Type: Warm-season grasses like Hybrid Bermudagrass are typically maintained between 0.375 and 0.5 inches, whereas cool-season grasses like Bentgrass and Kentucky Bluegrass are usually cut between 0.35 and 0.5 inches.Maintenance Intensity: Shorter fairways (e.g., 0.375 inches) demand more intensive labor, frequent mowing, and chemical inputs. Higher cuts (0.5 inches or more) make the turf hardier and easier to maintain but yield a more cushioned lie.Playability & Season: Some superintendents adjust heights seasonally to manage grass health or to achieve optimal definition between fairways and rough.
