Since 1893, the history of Grand Rapids Brewing Company has weathered countless changes. It began with six local breweries uniting to stand strong against newcomers like Anheuser-Busch. From the inaugural Silver Foam brew to navigating prohibition and thriving during the 2010s beer boom, our journey embodies craftsmanship, resilience and community spirit.
After 11 years brewing Beer City’s namesake beer and serving our downtown Grand Rapids community, we’ve faced the difficult decision to close our doors to Grand Rapids Brewing Company. A fire on February 23rd damaged our kitchen and HVAC system, forcing a temporary closure that we’ve now decided will be permanent.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated team, loyal GRBC mug club members and everyone who shared moments with us at the bar over the years. A heartfelt thank you to the Grand Rapids Fire Department and first responders for their swift action during last month’s fire.
We hold onto hope for a future where Grand Rapids Brewing Company may once again call Grand Rapids home. For now, though, 1 Ionia Ave SW bids us farewell.
