You know who you are.
University of Oxford research has previously indicated that frequenting local pubs contributes to enhanced health and happiness by fostering face-to-face interactions and strengthening social circles. These establishments offer a safe social environment, promoting camaraderie, relaxation, and a vital sense of community. Findings highlighted that regular pub-goers often feel more socially engaged, contented, and trusting of their community members, with social networks acting as a buffer against mental and physical illness. A recent report from “Pub is The Hub” in September 2025 further reinforces the significant social value of pubs, establishing that for every £1 invested in pub services and activities, an average of £8.28 in social value is created. This research underscores pubs’ crucial role in supporting community cohesion, well-being, increased social interaction, and in combating social isolation, particularly in rural and deprived areas by diversifying their offerings to meet local needs.
