I’m terrible at fundraising. It makes me so uncomfortable to ask for money for a cause that doesn’t impact me.
But I’ve learned a lot about epilepsy this summer and what a cruel disease it is. I know people impacted by it. And I’m learning that being in service to something outside of my own needs might be what this whole thing is about.
So it gives me the courage to push through my own discomfort and ask for them. Because they can’t do it themselves.
1 out of 100 people have had a single unprovoked seizure. Looking over a lifetime 1 in 26 will develop epilepsy at the current rate. I have multiple friends with children that have epilepsy. I am blessed with two healthy 16 year olds who are experiencing a new sense of freedom and growth becoming drivers. My friend has a 16 year old that knows she can’t drive because of her seizures. All of her peers are going through this milestone yet she is robbed of it by no fault of her own. It’s heartbreaking.
I’m pushing myself to do a triathlon Sunday in honor of their fight. Three hours of pain is nothing compared to what these kids and families have to endure. Triathlons have a finish line. Living with epilepsy doesn’t.
So, if you’re able to help, our team has raised an incredible $150k to support research. I’d be so grateful if you helped me help the team and this community of people.
