This Thursday Oct 8th is the National Day to End Sexual Violence. We can dream of a world where these horrors have been stamped out, but till then, it takes effort from all of us to eliminate the culture that breeds this kind of evil.

At karaoke this week, we encourage all participants to wear green, help us raise awareness of this issue and donate what they can to in their tireless efforts to make all spaces and communities safe for everybody.

On a personal note, I (Dyana) grew up in Ithaca. Cornell is my hometown school. My uncle was a professor there; my mom a staff member; and countless family and friends graduates. Our immigrant family has seen and experienced firsthand both wonderful and awful things from that institution, and I can only hope that the light the journalists at Cornell Sun have been shining on its most heinous corners will create a better future not only for that school but for our entire society.

We are blessed to have Flower of Liberty, Rene Villanueva, and Mitchell Mangoba at the helm on Thursday nights, safeguarding our bar and giving folks a place where they can unwind, have fun, and be themselves without fear… but I have seen and I know that it’s all of you, our regulars, our patrons looking out for one another, that make us so proud of what we do. Thank you.
