VFW Post 8587 came out in a huge way supporting the efforts to send care packages to the USS George Bush. Enough items were collected to create well over 1,000 individual care packages, which with the way sailors share will likely reach up to 3,000 sailors at sea. Thank you to Lynn Goode for bringing this project to our attention, not quite sure she was prepared for the response received. This is just one of the many reasons I am proud to be a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and especially a member of VFW Post 8587 in Georgetown.

This article hit the Williamson County Sun today and describes Georgetown VFW Post 8587 M/SGT Ben D. Snowden efforts to collect clothing for the Homeless Veterans in the Austin area. Each year District 28 holds a Homeless Veterans Standdown, collecting new and gently used items for distribution in the Southeast Austin area. This years event will be held on October 19th out of VFW Post 8925 in Pilot K**b. VFW Post 8587 will be collecting items through October 10 to deliver for the event. We need Sweats, Hoodies, socks, under garments and small hygiene products. Items can be brought to the Georgetown VFW located at 1000 N College St., Georgetown, TX. No one does more for Veterans than the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW.

This morning (8/25) I had the opportunity to attend a meeting of “A Gift of Time”, in Georgetown and to present a $2,000.00 donation from VFW Post 8587 to help support their important mission. A Gift of Time is a Georgetown-based nonprofit created to support families living with mild to moderate dementia—with compassion, dignity, and a deep understanding of what families are carrying. They also support many veterans who are clients in their program. For more information on “A Gift of Time” visit their website https://www.agiftoftimegeorgetown.org.
