Today is Labor Day in America. This day is a great time each year to reflect on the first immigrants from each of our families who came to this country to make a new life. Most of them did the hard labor available to them such as building subways, building construction, working the fields picking fruit and vegetables, laundry and sewing work. The list is endless.
Let's take a moment today to say "thank you." 🇺🇸🇮🇹

Italian American Sports Legend — Celebrating the Birthday of Rocky Marciano 🥊🇮🇹

Few athletes have embodied grit, determination, and pride quite like Rocky Marciano. as Rocco Francis Marchegiano to parents of Campanian and Abruzzese descent, Marciano rose from humble beginnings in Brockton, Massachusetts to become one of the greatest heavyweight champions in boxing history.

Marciano’s story is one of perseverance. Known for his relentless work ethic and incredible stamina, he became the only heavyweight champion in history to retire undefeated—a record that still inspires athletes around the world. But beyond the rings and titles, he carried with him the pride, resilience, and values of his Italian heritage, honoring the traditions and work ethic passed down from his Italian family. Marciano was also a proud member of OSDIA, joining the Christopher Columbus Lodge 216 in his hometown of Brockton in 1954.

His life reminds us that athletic excellence is more than talent; it’s heart, discipline, and a connection to the community and culture that shape us. For Italian Americans, Marciano is more than a sports hero. He is a symbol of immigrant perseverance and cultural pride, a living example of how heritage can fuel greatness.

Our outdoor bocce courts were recently rebuilt through the efforts of lodge members Mike Rossetti, Rich Tiballi and his wife Bethanny. HEP Materials donated the lumber. Many thanks for go out for the donations of both time and materials.
