With regret as of January, Charley's will be closing the doors for good. He has a long history of owning nightclubs and having some of the best beach and rock bands.
Charley Gunn was making his name as a successful operator of beach music, top 40 and blues clubs in Gaston County, beginning in the late 1960's with El Condor on South York. Road.Over the years, Charley drew major acts to Gastonia such as Ray Charles and Tammy Wynette. His friend Percy Sledge, who penned the timeless hit “When a Man Loves a Woman,” performed here 23 times. In 2004, he swooped in to buy this location and turned it into a nightclub called Downtown Dino’s.
On New Year's Eve 2017 the Gastonia Mayor Walker Reid gave him a key to the city! Such a deserving business man to receive this. We would like to thank all the patrons, friends, family, workers at the club and Gastonia Police Dept.
